It will not blow snow like the old 2000 model would..And wet snow you can for get it. I'm really not happy wiht this machine for the price i paided. I was told that Honda offers a replacement shoute that well help with the problems I've had blowing damp snow.  as a factory defect. As big as HONDA is they should cantact us new buyer with a free replacement shoute.

Tracks on Snowblowers handle differently than wheels

I needed a snowblower that I could use on a 18 degree sloped driveway.  Since the wheel based snowblower I was given a couple of years ago when I moved into my used home in N. Salt Lake did not stop or could not be well controlled on my sloped driveway, I need to get a track based snowblower that would, and it does stop instantly and no sliding down the hill when blowing snow off it.  I never thought I would buy a top of the line Honda snowblower due to the cost but I weighed it against falling with my previous wheeled snowblower which I gave to friend who has a flat driveway.

It will take some time to get proficient in using this great snowblower as it is not lacking in features (like safety and general ease of movement) or quality (like instant breaking and shields to prevent burning yourself or clothes on the hot engine).  Like all snowblower it does not work well with very wet snow or slush without clogging up the snow exit shoot.  If you have the money to spend on a snowblower of this quality and usable on a 20 degree or less slope, I would recommend purchasing a Honda Track Snowblower.

This is my 3rd season with the 928 model.  It handles snow great as long as it's not wet snow.  As noted in the other reviews, it does not handle wet snow well at all--the auger constantly needs to be cleaned out if the snow is wet.   It starts easy and the Honda quality is very good but the real downer is the inability to handle wet snow.  This season, I plan on moving wet snow with my ATV/plow.   It's not worth the frustration doing it with the snowblower.

Doesn’t work well in wet snow

Near the end of the 2018/19 snow season I purchased a new HS928 but kept the one I had owned for 15 years.  I was warned that the new model would not handle wet snow well but I ignored it because of the favorable experience I had with the old one.  The warning proved to be correct.  The end-of-season wet snow compacted in the chute and had to be dug out repeatedly.  The first snow of the new season was 6 inches deep and wet.  This effectively shut down the new machine because of chute compaction despite coating the chute and blades with silicon spray.  I pulled out the old machine and it handled the snow with no problem.  In my opinion, if one gets a meaningful amount of wet snow a different snow thrower should be purchased.

Used this for my 300 foot long gravel driveway and garage entrance in area that gets 150-200" of snow per season in NW Michigan.

It performed very well and cleared snow with ease most of the time. It throws the snow great, has easy to use features, and started immediately even on the coldest days. Gas consumption was better than expected. It is very heavy and bulky. It is not for the faint hearted. I worked up a sweat when plowing through 5-10' of the white stuff. Although it has the ability to turn left and right, it does not turn on a dime and has to be coaxed most of the time. It is slow going uphill. The ability to raise and lower the auger is great for gravel driveways but it can only be done while stopped, not while moving, in my experience. Biggest disappointment was with wet snow late in the season. It did not scoop it up and throw it. Instead, it had a tendency to push it and get clogged. Not what I expected.

Overall a very nice machine that handled the job well most of the time and I am confident there are no better machines out there.

I recently replaced a 21 year old Honda 828 with the new version(928). I love the push button height adjustment. Overall you simply cannot say enough about the quality of these machines. Couple of items I wish Honda had left alone are the power chute controls and the head light. The chute controls are very slow. When you have to turn around 180 degrees and head the other way, let's just say I was able to maneuver the chute much faster on my older machine. Now I must wait for the chute to catch up so that I can continue blowing the snow in the direction the I want it to go. I guess I will get used to it but I would have been fine leaving those controls manually operated. The LED light is bright for sure BUT since it is mounted low on the machine it casts a big shadow on the ground directly in front of the hopper. This is the area that you really need to see and now it is constantly in a shadow. I am considering buying some kind of bracket and light to mount it higher on the handlebars to fix this issue. Seems unreasonable to me that I would need to do that on a $2500 snow blower. This should definitely be revisited by the engineers.  The motor is quiet and has oodles of power. Honda boasts about Power Steering......Don't need it. In reality, the steering stops the drive track on the side that you want the machine to turn however there is still needed operator persuasion to push the machine in the direction you want it to turn. On snow or Ice I don't even bother squeezing the trigger. The only way this is useful is when going across dry pavement when you take it from or put it into the shed at the beginning or end of the season. The HUGE addition is to disengage the tranny you need only to squeeze both triggers at the same time and the machine is free as a bird to easily move around with the motor off. Overall its a Honda so I am confident that this machine will outlast me!! You can't go wrong for sure.

This is my first high-end snowblower, and what a good investment.  My plow truck just died and I needed a replacement to deal with my steep 200 foot driveway.  My other snowblower was only good for cleanup of smaller areas, hence the plow truck.  The Honda cut right through two feet of packed snow (thanks to the town plow trucks) at the end of my drive.  I was able to clear everything without requiring a shovel and a heart attack.  I have no plans to repair my plow truck . . . I don't need it anymore.

Hi! We got our Honda HS928AT snowblower about fifteen years ago, after carefully considering the other brands. While they had much lower prices, we decided to trust Honda to make the best. And they do. By far. We bought this snowblower when we had an 800' gravel driveway back in the country. It will easily throw gravel and snow fifty feet. We've since moved to a more suburban area, where our Honda has become a legend. Two years ago, we had about thirty inches after a blizzard, and our machine walked through it all for many neighbors. Since the time we bought this amazing snowblower, our maintenance costs have included a handful of shear bolts on the auger (caused by an occasional large chunk of gravel, once by a basketball deep in the snow), and annual oil changes change/lubrication. And not a single repair. The design is flawless, as are the ergonomics and durability. I haven't been surprised by all this. Our Honda Hydrostatic drive walk-behind lawnmower is the same at nineteen years. Don't even think about buying anything else.

I bought the HSS928ATD snowblower at the end of last year when my Craftsman machine died.  I just used it after we received storm Elsa which dumped 12" of heave wet snow on CT and the Northeast.  It handled it like a breeze, did not clog once, blew the snow where I wanted it. and the track drive with individual side clutch controls makes maneuvering it a piece of cake (I blow a path over our lawn so our propane delivery man can get to the tank. love the auger height control. This machine is so much better than my formed machine.  Yes they are expensive but boy do they perform.  My wife and I are glad we made this investment in our health and future.  I have read some curious negative reviews from other supposed owners but suspect they are really trolls who work for other manufacturers.  I am also amazed how fuel efficient this machine is,  don't need to add gas nearly as often as I did with the craftsman machine.

Just took delivery on the unit and it's June here in New Hampshire, so I can't use it yet. The overall design seems solid and fit and finish is typical Honda; i.e., outstanding. After filling with oil and a bit of gas, the unit started on the first pull of the recoil starter. My only complaint is the design of the dipstick/oil fill opening. It's very difficult to fill the crankcase with oil without getting oil all over the treads and the garage floor. Also, the unit comes with two one-pint bottles of oil (one quart total), but the crankcase holds 1.2 quarts. On the other hand, the two pints seemed to fill it even with all the oil I spilled on the floor. I have a long driveway with two hills on it and my old Craftsman blower had a hard time on the hills. Looking forward to using the tracked Honda next winter.

This tracked Honda snowblower works better than I ever imagined.  Starts on the first pull.  Chews up the snow.  Steers very easily.  Goes uphill without difficulty.  Blows heavy snow a long distance.  Overall, this is a machine that seems to enjoy its job.  It was pricey but well worth the expense in my opinion.

ONLY ONE WARNING.  Be aware that raising the auger height to maximum ends up tilting the control handles way low.  I tilt the auger up to move in reverse, and I have to bend down to reach the handles. 'm 5'9", and it doesn't bother me much.  I think if you were over 6' tall this could be quite irritating.

After I read many reviews lamenting the cost, I decided to buy one of these anyway.  My driveway is 75 feet long, and paved.  Was disappointed with how it bogged down in slushy snow, but anything else it really performed well.  In addition to my driveway I also need to clear a path around my house for access to the fuel oil fill and to keep the heater vent area clear.  The piston controlled height adjustment keeps me from chewing up the lawn, although I did destroy a sprinkler head on my irrigation system.

The joystick chute controller is wonderful, you don't have to stop and crank.  Having the auger locked on to the clutch control frees your right hand for changing the direction and height of you stream of snow.

When it comes to clearing snow in a hurry, including the hard packed residue at the front of the driveway from municipal plows, this machine really kicks butt.  After clearing my driveway and putting the machine away in the garage I left for work.  Observed a number of poor souls with tiny machines performing poorly, so glad I spent the extra money

I bought the snowblower with the power Shute controls and auger height thumb switch as a notable improvement over my 928 of 2013. The foot board of old was a bit trying just trying to find it when I was moving deep snow. This is my third Honda track snowblower and never had any track problem and this one definately an improvement although I got used to the foybles of the other 2. The transmission control and throttle have been switched around between the new and 2013 model causing me some problems. There no longer is a transmission fluid reservoir which the sales guy didn't know and tried to point to an engine mounting bolt as that was how to check transmission fluid! 4 days after getting this new one we got an 11 inch snowfall and this new one feels like it has more power than the same engine just a few years older. So first reviews are very positive for me and in my location, I have never had problems with fuel sitting for long periods and still being viable and never had any starting problems with any Honda engine starting, first pull always

I also feel uncomfortable knowing it was taken so far apart & wondering if the bolts were put back in the correct places ect ect. I feel Honda should extend the warranty of all machines that had to be torn down. The dealer did the job in 3 days and assured me everything will be fine, Only time will tell.

Follow Up, We got our first storm with enough snow to use this machine. I made 2 passes up and down my driveway and it worked great. On the 3rd pass it slowed down to a crawl and would not go up a slight incline. I dragged it into my garage, shoveled for an hour and then called my dealer. The dealer so far has been great, They picked it up and left me a loaner.  Honestly I have lost all confidence in my new Honda and may look to replace it when I get it back.

I got a call saying that a recall had to be done before it could be used. No biggie right? These machines have to be completely torn apart to correct a problem with the hydro transmission. I saw a brand new one in the shop with the engine over here and the tracks over there and piles of parts everywhere. I hope they do a quality job but in my mind it's been rebuilt and longevity is now questionable. If anyone is wondering why the delay on the new machines, this is it.
