All I can say is I am very pleased with the quality of my Honda lawn mower. Since I brought it home, it took some adjusting to, however, once that happened, I get nothing but compliments on my yard.

I bought this mower in April 2020. It has been in the shop 5 times since I bought it. I have mowed my lawn 5 times with the same problem. My dealer keeps sending the mower back to me with the same problem. I think that they could figure out the problem after having it for 5 weeks. By the way, we have a video of the problem that we shared with the dealer. I will not buy a honda mower again, and certainly not from this dealer!

I now have almost 2 months of weekly use on this Honda HRX, and I must say I am quite pleased. All of the features on this lawnmower have made yard work much more enjoyable. Blade brake clutch, hydrostatic transmission, infinite self propelled speed control (that gives no resistance when pulling the mower backwards), electric start with self charging battery, adjustable height handlebar, variable mulch and bag choices without the need for separate mulch plugs, and of course the beautiful cut that the twin blade system gives all add up to a very complete system for mowing that leaves nothing to be desired. Something that pleasantly surprised me was the balance of the lawnmower. When I opened the box and unpacked and set up the mower it felt heavy, however once I used it I found that the center of balance is such that very little effort is required to lift the front wheels and initiate any kind of turn. The hydrostatic transmission does all the work for you when moving forward, but it is also easy to push forward without the assistance as well. So while the mower may be heavy on paper, it certainly doesn't feel heavy once you are using it. The new 200cc engine is extremely powerful and produces a lot of torque. I was able to mow tall wet grass with no problem at all, and no grass clumping appeared. I like how large the grass shoot is and the way it mates up to the grass bag so well. Again, I don't know how Honda does it but the balance of the grass bag when held by its handle seems effortless to lift and dump even fully loaded. I have done the first oil change already and found it to be very easy to service. Between the thorough manual that's included and the Honda videos on their website I should be able to service my mower without issue for years to come. I recommend this lawnmower to anyone from novice to expert and I commend Honda on making an excellent lawnmower.

I have owned a Honda HRM215SXA for better than 20 years now and it is still going strong. I felt it was time to upgrade and a new Honda was the only one for me. All the new features and ease of use are outstanding. A more powerful engine and the electric start are only icing on the cake! You expect excellent quality and Honda always delivers. GREAT MOWER I wouldn't buy anything else.

So easy to start with either the electric start or a pull of the rope. Super quiet and extra large filler hole for gas. Only thing that would be better if it came with someone to mow the grass.

This is my second Honda mower and the quality of both has been excellent. I love the fact that his mower allows me to start it up without he blades operating. You can use the self-propel feature without the blades engaged. The mower speed, self-propelled speed and the blade control are all done from the handle. They have even made the gas filler larger so that you can add gasoline and tell when the tank is full. Honda is the best mower I have ever owned.

Purchased this lawnmower in July 2015 and have used extensively since then;  a couple of comments:  Pros - 1.  bags and mulches very well;  2.  Picks up leaves in the fall very well;  3.  Electric Starter is wonderful.  4.  Features are excellent.  Cons - 1.  Significant rust/corrosion on handle and handle hardware despite being kept in garage; 2.  Speed lever now drops to idle unless held in position - requires significant manual dexterity - like flying a helicopter on manual throttle.

What a great mower. The day after I bought the mower it snowed and it has been 2 months since I could try it out on the lawn. I had some left over leaves from the fall and I wanted to get them picked up plus even out the cut on the lawn. It started right up on the first push of the start button. I had some leaves and pine needles that I blew out to the lawn form the garden. It went through that perfectly. It looks like I vacuumed the lawn, It was also effortless even though I have quite a bit of slope in me back yard. Also the noise was less than I'd expect from a powerful mower. I replaced a brand new battery powered electric mower that was supposed to work as well as a gas mower. It didn't pick up the leaves and needles at all and the grass laid over and was a very uneven cut. I'm very happy with this Honda mower.

I can't say enough nice things about this mower.  At first, I thought,  "How could there be that much difference in my old $400.00 Husquvarna lawn mower we purchased at Lowes three years ago and this $900.00 one?"  Wow, I was wrong!  I am a woman who likes to do the lawn, I'm in my late 50's with arthritis.  Getting outside and moving around helps me mentally and physically.  The old mower was starting to be too hard for me because the mower had to be shut off for me to empty the bag and it was a pull start mower.  This new Honda mower stays running so I don't have to restart my mower over and over.  It was starting to really bother my shoulder.  Plus, with my old mower,  in the spring the lawn is so thick and long the bag would clog after just one pass.

I bought this mainly because of the mower remaining on while I bagged it and because it has an electric start.  i wound up shocked at how much better this mower is.  It mows so much better that it doesn't have to emptied nearly as often. It takes half the time, looks a lot better because of the quality of the blades.  I used to only mulch rarely because it looked so nasty on my lawn.  The Honda leaves no sign you have mulched it. I was stunned at that.  It also has a speed control I use around trees and curves.  I didn't think I needed it but again I fell in love with that feature.

I'm sorry if the review is a bit long and personal but I had to share!

Bought this last summer, because of ankle injuries and I am not able to smoothly push a mower up a slope.  This self propelled mower goes nicely.  It is heavier than my old push mower and on the turn around it is a bit more work.  My arm arthritis has made pull rope starting my 20 year old mower a bit painful, and often takes several tries.  This new Honda starts very quickly with a turn of the key.  The mulching is great, less the grass is very wet, the mower chops the grass so fine that I do not see the cut grass on the lawn.  I also have a tracked Honda snow blower and the hydrostatic transmission on the mower and blower are great being completely variable speed.

This is our third Honda mower; the first was purchased in 1985. We might even still have the first one if a neighbor hadn't run over a stump and bent the shaft. The second was in the Masters Series, but this HRX217HZA is the absolute BEST! The engineers at Honda are to be congratulated for a well - thought - out exceptional piece of lawn equipment

Yes, it IS a pricey mower, but considering the length of service to be expected from Honda products, do yourself a favor and get any feature that you think you might use, enjoy or appreciate. Saving a few dollars is simply not worth it. We opted for an electric start, but this mower is like our first Honda mower in that it starts with ease AND on the first try! The engine is both powerful AND quiet. The mower seems large, but it handles like a dream. It's light and nimble and the cut is jaw - droopingly even. Plus, I have 8 times more clippings left on  the sidewalk than this mower puts out. Clippings left on the sidewalk are practically nonexistent! They just vanish; no clumps of grass! We love the easy folding handle feature! Even my wife is crazy about this mower! Ever have a great tool that you just LOVE every time you use it? This is one of those.

I was wondering how this machine would fair in the fall so instead of picking up the cuttings from my pruning of my beachnut tree I ran over several hundred pounds in a concentrated area. I did cut out the branches thicker than a cigar. The Mower obliterated everything in its path I was amazed! Also on ease of use my 2 year old son was the one behind the mower I adjusted the hand to its lowest position so he could grab it, he was able to turn the key to start the mower, I engaged the blade lever it was a bit much for him he just pushed in the drive lever (low speed) and ran over a massive heap of leaves. The soil under the tree was a bit washed out the biomass will help I hope.

This mower is super expensive!!! but will more pay for it's self in 2 years with saving on yard clean up cost and fertilizer savings by my estimates. My lawn is done in half the time it took with my push bagging mower and I'm not breaking my back!

I was very happy that it started right up with ease, but then discovered the blades wouldn't engage. I tried adjusting the cable to no avail. Went online to check with others. Finally I noticed the lever was not going all the way back because of sticking of the lever action on the cable cotter pin. Bent it out to relieve the pressure, and now I can mow. Need better quality control so someone who is not as mechanically inclined as I am will have it work out of the box.

This is by far the best mower I have used in my short lifetime of 60 plus years. I have a challenging yard to mow: I have several large trees in my backyard with many large roots to mow around, which requires mowing in-between roots, then backing out. This mower makes this a breeze with the use of the clutch and speed control features of this unit. The speed control is simple to vary your speed on the fly, depending on the section of the yard you are working on at the moment. The rear wheel design makes mowing on inclines, which is also a feature of my yard, very easy. The electric start works very well: It starts right up like a charm. If you are a person whom is looking to take as much of the effort out of mowing your yard as possible, as I was, I think this mower is your ticket. This mower is super and I don't believe you can go wrong.

Looks like a professional landscaper has just mowed my lawn when I am done. This is a very well built and heavy mower. I owned one of these Honda HRX mowers many years ago (not an electric start model) and loved it. Could not wear it out. Passed it down to my son-in-law and it is still going strong. If you need a top of the line mower you cannot go wrong with this model. I would recommend it to anyone.

I did a lot of homework before purchasing this mower, and this spring when Consumer Reports agreed I took the almost $900 plunge. 1st mower had an issue, which dealer (Arco) and Honda handled absolutely perfectly, very professional and their priority was me the customer. Don't hear that too often anymore. This mower mulches like no mower I have ever owned. I have a very nice 3/4 acre lawn with thick grass, no weeds and a few hills. Usually hand mow the front and a little in back then the rest I use a tractor. With past mowers I often had to bag since they couldn't handled the height or thickness all the time. Yesterday I was positive that I would have to bag since we had lot of rain and I haven't been able to mow as often as I prefer. This mower is amazing, it mulched with hardly any evidence of grass clippings and I did not have to raise the cutting height to help. The mower has a powerful engine (something CR said as well), which helps with all it's capabilities and is surprisingly quite. The hydrostatic cruise control is so simple to use and makes mowing that much easier, my wife really appreciates that and the electric start. The 1 star reduction on ease of use relates to the handle itself, just seems long which can make for more difficult maneuvering. Otherwise this mower is the top dog of all push mowers. Guess I will just put the bag on the shelf! Hey Honda how about making an equally amazing lawn tractor?

Put through the paces on my and my neighbors lawns - tall grass, variable propulsion speeds, fully bagged clippings to mulching, handle adjusting on the fly for different users, electric and pull start, and teaching wife how to use and bring into control for her style. Wife eventually had it to where she felt comfortable with it, and I had it so the mower could keep up with my speed and demand rigorous cutting.

My less than top rating is because this was a replacement mower! The first model delivered didn't work - blade engagement button/handle wouldn't engage blade control cable, and there was no reasonable way to adjust or fix. So the mower had to be shipped back and replaced (which BTW, dealer accomplished within one week). Company's Owners Manual claims mower's operation is factory checked before shipping, but obviously, that check doesn't include insuring blade engagement mechanism works.

I've had my HRX217HZA for a year now.  When I first received it, the blades would not engage.  I called Honda and was told I would need to take it to a service center to determine if it could be repaired and if it would be covered under warranty.  Keep in mind, the mower had been delivered to me (new in box) earlier that day!  Anyway, I called a friend, took it to a dealer about 20 miles away, and they knew immediately what was wrong (the yellow blade control button would not engage - they fixed it in about 5 minutes).

Since then the mower has been awesome!  It cuts better than any other mower I've had, starts right away, is easy to maneuver...  It's expensive but worth it in my opinion!  I would have given 5 stars across the board if it weren't for the 1st day issues.

Everything is terrific.  Love the electric start.  It cuts very evenly.  It bags and mulches or discharges very well.  The engine is very strong, 200 cc.  It doesn't have a HP rating but it seem stronger than the 6.5 HP it is replacing.

Like that the blade stops without stopping the engine (Roto-Stop), but with the electric start this isn't as much of an issue.  This also makes it easier to start the engine without the blade inertia and drag during starting.

The drive is outstanding and easy to control the speed, and it holds the set speed very well.

Like the ability to use variable mulching.  Can mulch all, some on none.

Get the stainless steel deck guard option to protect the deck sides.  This should be included.  Why isn't it?

One thing is that pulling it backward is harder than previous mowers.   It seems the transmission gives some drag when trying to  pull it back.  This is minor.

I did a lot of research among brands and models and chose the Honda HRX217HZA, a top of the line Honda residential mower.  Just bought this $900 mower 2 days ago.  It was assembled and set up for use by a certified Honda dealer.  Read entire owners manual to educate myself about the safety and use of the mower.  Started it today and did not even get one pass in the yard and it began leaking fuel all over the place. It ran right out of the air filter compartment attached to the carburetor.  Any lawn mower that leaks fuel is extremely dangerous. I would not have expected this from a brand new $900 lawn mower.  I could never use this mower again and trust it to not be dangerous, no matter what a dealer might say about repairing it under any kind of warranty - just do not want it any more.  I could not recommend this model to anyone in good conscience.  I am now looking to buy another brand.

The box it came in was not well designed nor was it in good shape when it arrived.

Surprise - you need 2 people to get it out of the box. Since I am 70 years old, and my wife is more mature, I had to get it out by myself. This meant I had to open the box, turn it on its side and slide it out.

The wheels were not preset to the same height and their numbers are not all easily visible.

The gas tank is hard to read and so the way you know you need fuel is when it just runs out wherever you are.

The key start is a blessing as the rope pull is not easy.

The mower does a very good job cutting grass and rarely stalls out.

It does take a while to get used to the two bars - self propelled/blade but once you do it is not a problem. It makes a big difference when you do not have to restart the engine every time you stop to wipe the sweat from your face.

However, 2 weeks ago (Less than 5 months after receiving the mower) I had been mowing for about 30 minutes and as I was returning to my starting point the mower just stalled out/died. I assumed it was low on fuel so I pushed it back to my barn about 125 feet away. I used a flash light (It was after sunset) to look into the gas tank and the fuel level appeared low. My 5 gallon can of gas was empty so after a couple days of rain I filled it up with high test (93) fuel. I put 4 gallons into my JD tractor and saved the rest for the mower which I then filled up. The next day I started the mower and used the self propelled bar to take it to my planned starting point. I got about 30 feet when my wife asked me a question so I turned off the engine so that we could talk. I then restarted the engine and went another 30 feet at which point I tried to engage the blade. The mower stalled out.

Since then I have tried to restart the mower many times. Either it starts (10%) and stalls out within 2-3 seconds or it just will not turn over and run (90%). I checked the manual which did not contain my problem in the 'Troubleshoot' section. So, I checked the Oil level. It was fine but ultimately I changed the oil. I checked the Air Filter. It was clean except for a few very small pieces of grass. The Gas was fresh and I have had no problem starting my JD tractor. Believe me, a JD Tractor will look for any excuse not to run!

I went on line to find a Authorized Repair Dealer. The closest is a Honda Motorcycle location. I do not think they see many Lawn Mowers. They did come for the mower within a couple of days. They have my mower as I speak and its fate is still unknown. (The printout of said Dealers is not well formatted)

One major annoyance is Honda's policy of not providing pick-up and redelivery of a broken mower. It would be 'nice' if say it happened in the first year (Of a 5 year warranty) they would cover the cost of transporting it to and from a repair place. To their credit, Home Depot (The retail seller) came through and agreed to pick up that expense. Now that is first class service after the sale has been made! They even said they could bring it to their store and have their people check it out. If it needed something more serious they would then take it to the local Honda place.

Finally - Recommendation - How about Yes - No - Not sure yet!

I am printing this page out. I hope it will show everything I have typed. The answer is NO it does not!

The mower worked great for two years.  Then I discovered a design flaw in the gear drive while attempting to pull the mower back.  The wheels locked up and neither would rotate.  I could push the mower forward but was unable to bring it backwards.  I removed both drive wheels and discovered all the drive assembly parts (e.g., pinion gear, ratchet key, spring, etc.) were rusted together.  The flaw here is that the drive gear assemblies are inside the wheel housings and the housings are not sealed or protected from moisture.  Mowing through any grass will produce moisture from the clippings that will find its way into the housing.  The metal parts will then rust over time.  I removed all the drive components, cleaned them of the rust, and reassembled them with a heavy grease application.  This worked for ... two years when the problem reoccurred last week.  Another annoyance is the inability of the battery to turn the starter.  Again, the electric start feature worked for ... two years.  A replacement battery did not correct the problem.  I chose not to look into the starter as the machine was already past warranty.

I purchased this expensive machine because it had the highest rating just above the competitor of supposed same quality. (TORO). I wanted the starter feature because of health reasons (pulling a rope start is difficult). Guess what? It does not and has not started for me with the starter. Product information states, the battery will charge up after some use. Well? I ran it for some time and it still won't start with the starter. Luckily I was able to start it with the rope(which I thought wasn't needed anymore).Further more, when the motor is idling, it emits a deep knock noise that can be heard form a half block away. It sounds like a tug boat. Dealer had it for a few days and stated, the noise is normal because it has the carbon fiber deck. I've been a Honda fan for years and own other Honda products including a 2017 Ridgeline a pressure washer and generator that I purchased used. All of these machines including a walk behind HD string trimmer are very quiet and run beautifully. This machine is hard to push or pull back when going into smaller areas where needed. It feels like the brakes are seized (like on a car) when it has to be moved to turn or pull back. I have a very long relationship with HONDA and they were always sticklers for quality and customer satisfaction. So far, this time, with this so called TOP of THE LINE machine, I'm not at all impressed. It does do a fine job of cutting & shredding the clippings. Guess I'll have to go out and buy a charger so I can start my TUG BOAT and cut my grass when my neighbors are not at home (so they won't laugh). I gave away a perfectly good Ariens commercial self propelled swivel turn mower that I purchased in 1995 for$ 585.00.and it was like new. It was easy to operate but hard for me to pull start. I needed a mower with a starter and now I got one! I'd like someone from Honda to take the initiative to contact me in reference to the comments above. My dealer supposedly contacted Honda technical support after keeping the machine a few days only to tell me (for the tug boat knocking noise) that all plastic mowers make that noise. If that's the case, then a buyer should be informed of same by the dealer and even the above issues I've addressed above prior to purchase. I do not believe Honda, the reputable quality corporation that its known as would let any product out to the public as described.

Thank you for your attention.

In 2016 I purchased my second Honda mower (HZA) for which I paid $900.  The first Honda mower lasted 17 years and I paid $700. I upgraded to the HZA because of the electric starter.

Today I was cutting my grass and the clutch handle fell off!  This mower is two years old!  I am as angry as anyone can be because of this.  I tried to reattach the handle and was unable to do so.  I had to call a neighbor to assist me lifting this 102 pound machine in their vehicle and drive to a service center.  According to the Manual I have a 5-year warranty.

Where is the quality control that was so evident in my 17-year old mower?  I'll never trust the HZA again when I get it back from the repair company. For the record I do not abuse my mower.

This mower cant handle any lenghth of cut without stalling out and dying. Very dissapointing. I spent a lot on this mower and the dealer wont stand behind it. Now im stuck with a very expensive mower that will only cut dried dead grass.  Very dissaponted in Honda mowers and my Honda dealer.

It died last week after starting on the first pull and mowing half my lawn,( blew out a gasket in the engine). I was pleased to be able to buy the same mower with the same engine, transmission and rotostop blade that has run all these years without any failures. I have litterly only replaced air filters, 2 spark plugs, 2 blades, 2 catcher bags, had to redrill and manually bolt the handle on.

I did splurge this time and bought the electric start model. I'm smiling on starting it up it even sounds the same.

Although the price of the HRX217 HZA is steep it simply the best residential mower on the market. Although I only have my mower for a short period of time-I love it. The build quality, features and perfect cut each and every time make me glad I settled for a Honda. My prior Honda mower gave me 20 years without ever giving me a problem. It was reliable each and every season. However when the self propelled components began to break down, I new it was time to let the girl go and look for a new mower. I researched a number of websites and reviews and settled on the HRX 217. At first I suffered from sticker shock but eventually realized you get what you pay for. I chose the model with all the bells and whistles; 190 CC engine, electric start, blade break and hydrostatic transmission. At 60 years of age I am confident this mower will outlast me.

Bought a new Honda mower HFX217HZA today.  Within 20 minutes of mowing, the self propel system stopped working. Took the mower back to the dealer and the drive belt had slipped off the pulley.  Dealer repaired the mower on-site after a disappointed customer discussion. Brought the mower back home and finished mowing without any issues. Love the key start. The mower handles very well (not too heavy) and cuts very well. We set the mower to mulch for the front yard and both bag/ mulch for the back yard. As long as the self propel belt stays on the pulley, we will be satisfied customers.

Ive owned this mower for several years now, its been so many that i’ve lost exact count probably around 7 years. I have done the usual maintenace@ oil,air filter changes. I’ve resharpened blades and purchased new blades and resharpened new ones. I now keep two sets of blades one on mower one resharpened and ready to go. I’ve one time  changed the spark plug, but usually I would annually pull plug clean and regap, then run for another year. The electric start has worked great, it’s nice that my wife can easily start up mower anytime she feels like mowing. My lawn size is about 3/4 of an acre, and with this being a easy to use mower we can get the job done in about 1 hr at a relaxed pace of walking. I would say mower can drive faster than I want to walk behind. The batteries on the handle bars used to hold a charge for the whole summer, now I have to recharge them about once a month. Thinking about replacing the batteries. I see honda has gone to a smaller ( probably lithium battery pack now). I like that the mower shreads and picks up mu fall leaves, ready for composting.

Received delivery today.  Assembled and installed bag, put new oil and fresh fuel into the mower ran it for 5 minutes to put it through its paces and shut it off.  Fuel began to leak profusely from the air filter compartment and didn't stop until I shut off the fuel valve.  Obviously a carburetor problem on a brand new machine.  Unit has to be sent in for a 2-3 week repair before I ever got a chance to mow with it.  I'm not pleased to say the least.  I've owned many mowers over the years from budget models to high end models and none gave me problems right out of the box.  This is poor quality control and completely unacceptable on what's essentially a thousand dollar purchase.  I cannot recommend this product and truly regret my purchase.  Never again!

Machine ran flawlessly for three years.  Then last year the rear wheel drive system went out.  The dust seal on one side of the drive shaft was not seated against the adjuster arm at the factory.  Moisture got into the assembly, rusted the parts, and caused a failure of the pinion gear.  Honda dealer said it would be four weeks for repairs because they were short on service staff.  I bought the parts and repaired it myself in two days.  This year the starter motor is spinning but not engaging the flywheel (having to use the recoil starter system) and the rear wheel drive system is failing again.  It is not free-wheeling when the machine is pulled back.  Neighbor offers to loan me his Toro while my machine goes back for repair.  He bought his Toro the same year I bought my Honda and his Toro has never seen the repair shop.  Hear that Honda!

When I got it home, I opened the factory sealed box and the 3 items that were to be enclosed were missing. There was just an oil bottle paper neck collar with some instructions on it.

The missing items were the bottle of Honda lawnmower engine oil, the electric start key and the operation manual; therefore, I cannot use the mower. I paid $907. for this lawnmower and especially when I now have to pay a landscaper to cut my grass and that makes this more upsetting.

Place of purchase told me to call you. Please accept this as a request for these missing items.

So far, the only problem I have encountered came when I removed the mower from the shipping container.  After removal, I attempted to raise the handle and found that I had to loosen the bolts to the point of removal before I could raise the handles.  This should not have been a problem, but it was.  I almost took the mower back to Home Depot and ask for a refund due to this problem.  However after getting the handle in place, I have had no other problems with the mower.  Love the way the double blades work in cutting the grass into little bitty pieces, and look forward to this feature come fall when leaves start falling.  You might also note that this is a very heavy lawn mower, almost twice the weight of the Toro mower I was used to.  Note: I am 77 years old so weight is a concern

Only other negative comment I have is that the bag fills up on the left hand side rather than being distributed throughout the bag.  On the positive side, the bag holds a lot of grass clippings.

I would also state that I love the electric start feature and also love the way I can control the speed of the mower to match how I like to walk when mowing.

Took it back to dealer the next day  and had to wait for 3 weeks to get it fixed. Evidently Honda drags their feet on warranty claims. Dealer would not refund my money or give me a new unit. In the meantime, I have no mower and had to pay people to mow my lawn. I finally had the credit card company put a hold on payment, until I got the mower back. They put in a new transmission and a new starter. So much for quality control at the Honda factory. I have used it for about an hour since getting it back, & it seems to be working OK now. I expected a lot more out of a $900 mower from Honda. I would never purchase a Honda product again.

I would have given 5 stars all the way, but the thing wouldn't start when I first got it. Had no help from dealer I bought it from on line, local repair shop not much help either, couldn't even get to it for a week or more, american Honda no help, just refer me to purchasing dealer.

I finally got it started with some starting fluid, but would not re start after shutting off. I let it run for 15 minutes, still no restart. Used starting fluid again to start, but would not re start after shutting down.

I was ready to pay the freight myself and send it back, but decided to try some work myself, I am pretty  good at mechanical stuff, so I started looking at what moved and didn't move when running, and saw a spring that seemed to be loose when engine was at rest, so I move the spring to another hole in the governor arm, and tried it again, and lo and behold, the darn thing started.

I have tried it 4 different times now, and each time it starts and runs, although it hunts up and down in RPM's until it gets really warmed up, but at least it starts and runs with electric start, and pull start.

I haven't used it to mow yet, so I don't know what will happen when it gets really up to full operating temperature.

It seems to me the factory should have put the spring in the proper hole to begin with , I shouldn't have to work on a mower that costs 850 bucks. Plus the aggravation and rise in my blood pressure.

Very disappointed in the don't give a crap attitude at American Honda, no refunds, no reimbursement if I have to send it back, just call some body else.

I haven't called the on line dealer I bought from yet, going to wait and see if it will start a few more times. I will try to get a commitment from them to send it back if it won't keep starting . My local repair shop isn't worth my time or gas to even go see them judging by my phone conversation I had with the repair man, he didn't have a clue as to what might be wrong, or even if it would be covered by warranty, even though I had only had the machine for two days.

Some time will tell, I hope it is as good as all the reviews I used to judge the mower when I bought it.

I will never buy an electric mower again! When I was a child my father mowed his lawn with a gas mower. I bought into the whole "Going Green" attitude and purchased a Neuton CE6 on a special California trade in program. The mower was awful, it never mowed even and left clippings behind. It killed the grass due to a poor cut.  The plastic body and all other "Chinese" components started to disintegrate.   I then hired a landscaper, and noticed that all landscapers around my neghborhood DO NOT use electric mowers. They all use Honda mowers. Hmm I wonder why???.  Next I decided to save money and give an electric mower another try and purchased the ECO for 567$. This mower felt like the first one...Cheap! I then realized nothing is made well any more, and I am not going to get stuck with another POS. Keep in mind that all Power tools and Mower batteries will fail and they are sometimes more expensive to replace than the product they run " This is the SCAM". plus they are always charged using Fosil fuels not a Magic outlet on the wall.

Finally I ordered my first ever Honda top of the line Mower! the HRX2175HZA. My daughters helped me unpack it and fill it with the required fluids. I turned the key and it fired up First time! this machine feels like a tank, solid and I know it is "Built to Last". Honda HRZ217 5HZC one year review

It is now one year since I purchase the HRX217HZA model from Honda Power tools in Markham, Ontario Canada. The machine is used 6-8 times a year. So far I am very satisfied with the capability of this machine. In order to be happy with this you have to read carefully the manual on how to start and to handle this lawn mover. It has many features. It cuts the grass evenly with blades with high speed. This is very good. Keep your lawn free of stones or any debris that can make this machine to stop on. The lawn mower has a clutch that makes it very easy to use, together with an accelerator. It cuts the grass at your preference. It has an electrical start by turning the key as you do to your car. The rear wheel drive makes this lawn mover feel more powerful. It starts at the first turn but make sure you clamp the clutch and the safety start after you turn the key one quarter. This is important, please read the manual. Also, the grass bag is quite big. This is Ok for cutting my size lawn.

I would have to recommend Honda two things to make this machine perfect:

1) have a bag that fit's the opening of a Home Depot paper bag or any off the market. Currently the opening of the Honda collector bag is bigger than the paper bag we use from Home Depot Lowe's etc...This makes the grass transfer a bit difficult. This is not really something that would impact this review.

2) Also, I would highly recommend charging the battery of this lawn mover with the Honda Optimate 3 battery charger. I am doing that between cuts, to keep the battery in shape. It was a bit of soldering required in order to make the charging happening. That is another thing I would recommend Honda to place by default the connector for this battery charger. It would make the machine so much more easier to start and to use.

Yes, I would recommend this machine to others to use. I am happy with this and I give this lawn mower a 5 star review after the first year of use.

Honda, please include Ontario and Canada into your review country/province selection guide. Thanks.

Cutting Height Adjustment

Overall I am well satisfied. However, I find it difficult to hold the Blade Control Lever and adjust the speed while momentarily changing speed (e.g., turning a corner) using the Drive Clutch lever. I'm sure I will get used to it, but it is a lot more difficult to use as compared to my 12-year old mower.

I did have considerable difficulty adjusting the cutting height adjustment on the wheels. I had no trouble adjusting the front wheels, but I had some difficulty adjusting the left rear wheel, but was successful only after considerable effort. However, it was impossible to adjust the right rear wheel because the wheel rim caused such an obstruction that I could not move the lever. I finally solved the problem by taking off the right rear wheel and making the lever adjustment. I am not looking forward to future adjustments.

Just purchased and have only used once but I can already tell it's great. I had a Honda HBR216 for 15 years and it was very reliable and easy to use. I hate to part with it but it was starting to run rough. Still starts on first pull. Starter cord return cog was beginning to wear out forcing me to remove cover and adjust to get cord to rewind. Replaced all 4 wheels once. They need replacement again so I thought might as well buy an upgrade. That's my only complaint. The soft plastic wheels tend to wear and they are not cheap to replace, but hey replacing the wheels once in 15 years was the only repair needed. Time will tell on my new mower as it has plastic wheels. New model operates just like my old model so no learning curve. Auto choke is great improvement as is Clip Director! My old model use a formed plastic plug for mulch mode. I had to add a screw to keep it from blowing out. Twin blades are fantastic for mulching which is required in my city. Electric start is a plus but not necessary as my old model was always easy to start. Bigger 9" wheels gives me more range of adjustment which is essential with having to mulch especially when the grass is long. Folding handle will make it easy to put in the back of my SUV if I have to take it in for  service.

Added gas, turned the key and all good.  Made a few trial passes to get familiar, and that went very smoothly. First impressions were great.  Very well made, excellent quality, packing was excellent, and the new Honda has lived up to the standard set by our excellent 2012 Odyssey.  We live in the country and I mow about two acres ranging from the ditches along our gravel road to the lawn up around the house with a walk-behind mower.  Around trees, under trees, in all the tight spaces, and around landscaping.  I will be behind the new Honda about 2 - 3 hours per week.  The main part of the lawn is handled by my John Deere compact utility tractor and 54" mower deck.  I am looking forward to many years of trouble free mowing with new Honda.

Gift for B-day, bought online through Home Depot and delivered by UPS.  Damaged in box somehow...frame for grass bag rubbed down to bare metal, same for part of the 'push frame'.  Housing on left side of handle for the blade brake clutch cable squished together so paint scraped off after 2d use and blade brake clutch safety release doesn't work - yellow button stays down until I physically pull it up but I can still push the handle forward - meaning I'll take it in. Overfilled gas on second filling and wiped it up - rinsing is now damaged on deck housing and the 'step here' sticker is essentially gone.  For a walk behind mower that is pushing a $1000 it should not be damaged outta box, safety features should work, and finish and use stickers should not so easily damaged.

I looked at the All Wheel Drive mowers coming on the market because I have a hilly yard my old mowers, riding and self-propelled walk-behind, can't keep traction on. I found out that all the residential grade AWD mowers have the same flaw, once a wheel slips, the other wheel on that drive belt gets no power. So I started asking for limited-slip differentials. The Honda hydrostatic drive has a type of limited slip that keeps power to both wheels when one is slipping. I made them show me in the shop! If you tilt the mower up so one drive wheel is in the air, the other wheel still has full traction. Now you're talking! This is working great on my hills. The electric start is a luxury I didn't need but it's nice. This mower cuts clean, mulches great, the Clip Director works, and Roto-Stop is nice to have. it's quiet enough, runs smooth, and has plenty of power. I like having a manual throttle along with the speed control, which works better for me than the squeeze-the-handle-to-go-faster types. No complaints, this is a quality product.

Do you see a theme here? Until this day I had not seen my model in person. Well, the quality, fit and finish was as I expected from Honda...perfect. It, was well worth the $10.00 charge to have it serviced, checked out by the service man, and ready for use. I just ran it in the drive way, didn't want to get it dirty, just to get familiar with the controls. Plan to mow in the cool of the morning tomorrow when it will only be in the 70's. I will update this after mowing only if I am not unhappy with the HRX217HZA...I strongly believe you won't hear from me. This is my second mower. With 5 acres leaves never get bagged and neither does the grass. Mulching is the only way to go and its better for your lawn. In the fall I mow with open shute turn around close shute and remow and it looks like you raked your lawn. This mower beats my john deere tractor. When you let you lawn get a little to high the grass chunks are left behind with my tractor and its mulching kit. After I'm done with mowing and see all the chunks the Honda chunk eater come out to clean up the mess. I did own a snapper in the past and for that mower you had  to change the blade to bag the front and mulch the back. My first Honda was in 2006 and today 2016 I bought a new one. The old one still runs like a top but the self propel is going. I highly recommend Honda HRX series. My last house had sprinklers and sod and I never bagged.

I try to always cut my grass around the same height every week. My old craftsman mower would have 2 large lawn bags of grass clippings when I was finished. My first mow with my new Honda was excellent. I selected full mulch and a little bit of the clippings still gets around the deflector but not very much. I had about a half of a plastic shopping bag after I finished today. No clumps in the yard and now no bags of grass to drag out for the garbage man. It cut beautifully, started super fast and the features like the cruise control and the blade disengage are ideal. This is a Cadillac compared to my old craftsman. Very pleased!

I only buy Honda engines (7 cars, dirt bike, generator, pressure washer, trimmer, and 2 mowers). My first Honda mower in 2010 with the OHC engine was excellent and I reluctantly gave it to my father, and he remains extremely pleased with it. This latest $900 mower was purchased in Jan 2016.  After unboxing and putting oil in it, the engine started, but had a loud knocking sound - concerning enough to video record it.  This non-OHC Honda engine lacked power, stalled out and refused to idle - it was not the gas. In May 2016 after much denial, I took it to an authorized Honda service center. They made adjustments to the ignition system, cleaned the carb and made adjustments to the carb idle/throttle - all under Honda's 5 year warranty.  The GCV190 engine now responds powerfully.  The handle controls take time for the user to adjust to. The overall features (electric starter, wheel adjustments, deck and bagging are outstanding and the micro cut looks great.  I still cannot believe that I got an engine that was half-baked at the factory.  Please bring back the OHC engines, and please validate the quality controls in the engine shop. I am and always will be a life-long Honda customer.

I'm pretty disappointed in the NeXite plastic decking.  After considering all the features and the similarities to my old mower, I chose this model despite being concerned about the plastic decking. I should have gone with my gut and chose a steel model. The plastic deck distorts and bends when you mow, move over uneven turf or bumpy areas. This causes unevenly cut grass and a wobbling feeling. It simply feels cheap. It does weigh less than steel, but it won't hold up for long, I'd gladly take my old rusted mower back.

I've used this mower for one season now and I'm very happy with it.  It runs great and cuts grass very well.  The self-propel feature is great when you need it.  The electric start by turning a key rather than plugging the mower into an outlet is one of my favorite features.  I was able to use the electric start the second time I used the mower and used the electric start every time after that.  The flexibility on height level adjustment is great, though it takes a little bit of muscle to adjust each wheel.  I think bagging is excellent with this mower, but be warned that this thing works like a vacuum; so that bag is going to fill in no time.  Also, if your grass is really long, the harder you make the mower work, the more quickly you're going to burn through gas and you may end up filling the tank a couple of times.  I had a brand new lawn (about 1/3 of an acre), so I was letting my grass grow longer to promote growth.  The first couple of times I mowed the lawn I had to fill the tank a couple of times.  Once I was mowing on a regular cycle, I would never make it through an entire tank of gas.  The Roto-stop is a great feature for times I need to walk away from the mower momentarily.  One tip, which is probably obvious, but try to make sure your grass is dry when you mow it.  Wet grass will collect on the underside of the mower hindering performance eventually.  I always check the underside of the mower just to remove any clumps of grass.  As long as the grass is dry, it's not much of an issue.  Overall, I think the mower does an excellent job and is great for smaller properties.

I've purchased and operated many lawn mowers in the past, Murray, MTD, Sears Craftsman, Toro riding and push mowers, but this HRX217HZA beats them all. Quality cutting, more bagging volume, wonderful features like a ten position Clip Director, shift lever in which to select the forward speed at which you wish to mow. Throttle lever for best cut quality. Blade control lever for if you need to leave the mower for any reason, even just to inspect the lawn ahead or empty the bag, the engine remains running. My wife loves the electric start feature. I also like the two blade feature as well, upper and lower blades. The only drawback which is not a major issue to maybe some people would be the cutting height adjuster in the REAR of the model, it can a little difficult to pull the lever on each side but they have solid notches which have solid numbers in detail in adjusting the height. Removing the bag is very easy and secure. Adjusting the handle bar is the best design I've seen for easy storage. The mower deck is solid, best I've seen, good design and very good mower!

I have been looking at this mower for 2 years and finally decided to pull the trigger.  My 13 year old Toro self propelled still worked fine but I just wanted a new mower with more bells and whistles.  I have used it 6 times now and I truly love it.  It took me a couple of times to get used to it.  The 1st time I used it I ran it too fast.  I guess I thought I was in a race.  Since then I slowed down and set the speed for my pace.  My old mower was front wheel drive and I lifted the front end up to turn corners and I was still doing that with my Honda.  That was my issue, NOT the mowers.  Once I got out of this old habit it was easier to use. I am 6'3" and I had the handle raised all the way up.  I lowered it to the middle setting and it is more comfortable at that setting.  The 4th time I used it, it started to rain so I cranked up the speed and finished mowing just before it poured.  I was darn near running but I finished.  I would not have been able to do the same with my old mower.  I really like being able to keep the mower running while stopping the blade to move objects.  This is one of the reasons I bought it.  The battery start is great too.  No more pulling and pulling to start a mower.  Even when I tip it over to clean it, it starts right away after cleaning.  I have a little side hill and the mower moves right along.  My old Toro, with front wheel drive slid down the slope a bit when I mowed but my Honda tracks right along.  And power, oh my this mower is powerful.  One time the grass got too long and with my old mower I would not have been able to mulch it but with the Honda it did a great job of mulching.  My Honda also does a cleaner more even job of mowing than my old Toro which left grass tracks, like wind rows, that I needed my leaf blower to blow away.  The Honda leaves no such tracks. It is a heavy mower and it is not real easy to mow around small objects and that is the only negative I can come up with.  I am so glad I got this mower.  It is pricey but I wanted the best, according to Consumer Reports, and I am not disappointed in the least.  I figure this is the last mower I will every buy.  I mow an average of every 5-7 days and it takes me 2 hours to mow my lawn.  This mower is a luxury but is is easier than it has ever been. Thank you Honda engineers.

This is my second Honda lawn mower this season as I gave my initial purchase to my daughter and son in law as their mower wasn't serviceable. The previous Honda was not hydrostatic drive, nor was it roto stop. I felt like stepping up to the HRX after the exchange thinking I could see the value of Roto stop and possibly getting a little more power out of the 190 instead of the 160. I like the hydrostatic drive, but was very comfortable with the variable speed on the other model. Cornering is easier with the variable speed paddle, but I need to adjust to the hydrostatic bar a little in the corners. The bigger engine seams to not be challenged, but in reality, neither was the 160. The roto stop is the clincher for me. The Nexite deck is trick looking and so far I like it. The Nexite made a beautiful cut at the 3 setting. Level, clean and crisp. The 190 is quiet, lower RPM than the 160 I think, which helps reduce fatigue. Happy as can be and looking forward to using the HRX more often.

This replaces my Honda HR214 I bought 30 years ago that recently started giving me problems. I love the electric start, my back is thanking me already for this option. I mowed last night and the yard looks better than before. I think probably do to the dual blades and the better mulching design. I can hardly wait for fall and try it on the leaves that always collect in my yard. This machine seems to be more maneuverable around the many plans and bushes my wife has collected over the years, that the old HR214. THe variable speed setting for how fast it goes is another great plus. I can crawl around some of the more delicate plants, and then on the open yard set the speed for a more comfortable walking speed. Just like my treadmill! The grass was long last night what with my HR214 being broken, and the new mower had no trouble what so ever. Easy to clean up too! Thanks Honda.

I have to give this mower a mixed review. It does a very good job of cutting the grass, which is what you want. However, the mower is not very user friendly. First, our electric starter has never worked. Thankfully, the pull start is very easy to pull. The mower would work very well if you have a yard that accomates straight cutting. The mower is very heavy and is difficult to maneuver if you have corners, curves and turns.  There are two levers - one controls the cutting speed of the blade (unsure why this is necessary), and another controls the pace of the mower's "cruise control".  To engage the mower blades, you need to engage and hold one bar. To engage the cruise control, you need to engage and hold another bar. To turn, you need to release the cruise control bar, turn the mower, and then re-engage the cruise control bar.   So, there is a lot of bar releases and re-engaging going on if your yard requires a lot of turns. Add to it that this mower is very heavy, as I said earlier, making turns not very easy.  If I need to replace this mower, I would not buy this model again.

The quality of the controls seem very good, and after a short time using it, the becomes easy to operate. The electric start on mine doesn't work, but the pull starter works very well without much effort to pull. I would recommend getting the model without the electric start , its not worth the extra money. Overall, I am pleased with this lawn mower.

Dead battery at the time of purchase, the seller tried to charge the battery before I left the store with the mower. After reading the owner’s manual (battery should charge within 1 hour of use) I decided to take it home and use it for the first mowing. After more than an hour use the battery did not charge to the level needed to start the engine. I contacted the seller and they promptly order a replacement battery. At this time there are no further issues with the electric start.

The mower provides a nice cut

The self-propel drive and ground speed control work well

The blade engagement is bit difficult to operate and if the yellow tab is not fully depressed it can slip while you are moving it to the engage position resulting in a pinched finger when blade engagement bar slams against the main handlebar. The blade clutch is a great feature but it should be designed to stay engaged until you need to disengage the blade. I am sure the current design is considered a safety feature and an assist for the easy start but it is to cumbersome to deal with 3 different bars in your hands while turning or maneuvering the mower in tight and often turns

The second concern is with the bag in place dust passes over the top of the bag and is blown directly on the person. Also clipping build around the top of the bag area resulting in a bit of a mess each time you empty the bag.

Both of my sons purchased new Honda lawn mowers last year and encouraged my to purchase one as well.  It was good advice.  I absolutely love everything about this mower.  It's easy to use, does a great job of mowing and runs smoothly.  Honda hit a home run!

I purchased my first HRX series mower three or four years ago thinking I was finally going to treat myself to a top end walk behind.  I loved it from the first time I used it. This year my son and his family are moving to a new house so I decided to buy another one for myself and give my used one to him.  At the last minute, I bought two new ones for us and have decided to give my used one to my son in law. If they like them as much as I do, they will be life long customers !  Thank you Honda for a quality product !

First Honda Mower

Very pleased at the outset.  Needed to upgrade from my JD Mower after open heart surgery.  Wanted an electric start, period.  Wanted quality, easy to use, mulching capability, etc.  Found all of this in this Honda.  Wanted enough power to match my old mower (190cc) and Honda had that too.  Dealer loaded it in my truck and my wife helped me unload it.  I was just going to get it setup and not actually mow yet, but it was so easy, I ended up mowing my back yard to make sure it was set up ok for my temporary lawn boy neighbor (an eleven year old, that could not pull start my JD mower-his Dad had to start it for him).  I ended up mowing my whole lawn with ease.  My wife wanted to know if I was working to hard and I said I don't think so.  This is very easy to use  I just had to poor in the oil provided, poor in some gas I had, adjust the wheel height (mowing deck), which was very easy too and turned the key.  Instant start up and off we go.  Thanks Honda.

Typical Honda quality. While not quite up to snuff as my 20 year old Honda commercial mower of years ago, still cuts thru tall grass like butter, bag holds a LOT of clippings and the bag or mulch idea seems to work very well for the three weeks I have had this mower.  The best thing about the mower is that it pulls you along as fast as you can walk or trot! something those mow-at-your-own-pace mowers simply cannot do.  Looking forward to many years of good use. At my age, 79, likely the last mower I will ever have to purchase!

ist Mowing with My NEW MOWER

I just picked up my new mower from the dealer.  He set it up so when I got home all I had to do is add gas and go.  It is the electric start model and it started right up even though it hadn"t been charged yet.  I was amazed by the amout of the power in the drive.  So much so that I had to get used to the drive/clutch. This made it a little difficult cutting around things.  It got better as I got used it. I let my wife use it and she had a hard time with the clutch.  The electric start feature was mainly for her so that she could start the mower.  She will have to get used to the clutch if she is going to mow. I wish there was a way that she could cut the back on the clutch without needing alot of strength in her hands?  Other wise I think that the mower is great.  I will try to write another review once she has used it a little more.

Having just purchase the HRX217HZA mower and using it twice, it is not a $900.00 Lawn Mower. If bagging your grass, it leave tracks as the one prior reviewer complain about in a previous review. The two bars, one to engage the mower and the other to control the speed of the mower are difficult to use. Much prefer my old mower which had a lever to engage the lawn mower and just one bar to control the speed. I sure it is a safety consideration but difficult when you have to turn the mower a 180 degrees to go in the opposite direction. Save your money and get something the $500  to $600 range. Disappointing to say the least.

We purchased our HRX217HZA Lawnmower from Jim's Motorcycle Sales, 2804 West Market Street, Johnson City, Tn.. As soon as we returned home in Kingsport we tried out our new lawnmower.  Excellent is really not strong enough adjective to describe the way the lawnmower met our mowing needs.  The lawnmower is easy to use and mowed, mulched and bagged our clippings better than our previous mowers which had been for the most part the higher end Toro Lawnmowers and one short lived TroyBilt.  The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Jim's Motor Cycle Sales were very helpful in our choosing and purchasing the Honda Lawnmower.  My wife and I are looking forward to several years of service from our Honda HRX217HZA Lawnmower.

Bought this mower to allow me to mow a large sloped lot with little muscle effort. It works well! The engine is powerful, quiet and moves the mower easily through heavy turf. Sharp turns require 'some' effort, so I avoid sharp turns. Overall, 5 stars.

While my previous mower was in the shop, I borrowed a neighbor's Honda mower and liked it so much I bought one for myself.   I was tired of the multiple pulls my less expensive mower needed to get it started. As a woman living by myself, there were days when I actually begged a man passing on the street to start it.  With the Honda, 99% of the time it starts with one or two pulls.  Changing the oil is easy, and I've found it to an extremely dependable machine.  The expense is well worth it in terms of reliability and convenience.  If there's a fault, it is that it is a heavy machine, but fortunately for me, that's not a problem.

Do yourself a favor... Buy this mower... !!!

Yes, the initial cost is high...  However, this mower will last twice as long as mowers half it's price ..  So from a economic perspective there is a good chance you will actually come out ahead in a dollars and cents comparison ...

While the economics are attractive, but the BEST part is, you will get to use this fantastic piece of machinery for the next 10 to 15 years ...

You will actually look forward to mowing your yard if you have this machine !

Do your self a favor... Buy this mower, you will never regret this purchase

I would not recommend Honda for their mowers.  I purchased the mower at the end of last season (13) and only used it once in 2013.  A little over half way into the 2014 season the mower quite working.  They advised me to take it into Legacy farm and Lawn in Joplin MO.  The only answer they gave us is that it is not going to be a warranty claim because there was evidence that it did not have oil.  The mower had oil when it was dropped off and they aknowledged that.  When asked if all the seals where fine the tech. got deffensive and just said the mower was ran with no oil.  When counting up the total number of weeks this product was used, it was around 16 total times.  But the only information the Legacy farm and lawn tech. could give me is there several reasons why this mower would not have oil.  Even with this experience I was willing to give Honda another shot just from there reputation, so I just wanted to ask the Honda tech. a few questions.  When I spoke with the tech. I got no better service then what we had got at Legacy lawn and Tractor.  I told him that Honda said they paid for the service fee to look into the promblem ($50) and they said no one would ever say that.  I told him sorry for the misunderstanding and wanted to ask him a few questions about what could of happened.  He just tried to get me to take back to the dealer, even though it was just their and Honda turned down the claim.  I just wanted to know some of the possiblities that could of happed, and all he said was it could of been several reasons and he was not going to go into them.   All in all the product did not last and the customer service was not good.  In my opinon you might as well buy a mower from Wal-Mart or a comparable store, those mower will last you two seasons with no problems before they break.

My wife bought the HRX21HZA mower in 2009 while I was at a yearlong deployment.  She took deliver of the mower on May 2009 and mowed our 1 acre law with ease. The mower started from the first click of the electric stop and mowed our grass beautifully without stopping (due to BBC).  I came back in 2010 and been happy mowing our grass without any problems. 5 years later, all I do is change oil, plug, air filter, sharpen the dual blades and charge the battery. No fuss and the the mower runs the same way since my wife bought it in 2009.  Perfect mower for anyone that likes to get walking exericise while trimming the yeard!

I was mowing and the handle height adjustment pin came out on one side, well could not find the spring.  I went to the dealer where I bought the mower.  They did not have one, went to another dealer, which had the spring, but acted as though since I did not buy it there, I had to pay for the part, which I did ($4.70). This is an 800 dollar mower thats 3 months old, I'm buying parts already.  Its most likely a local thing, can't believe Honda would not Warranty a part through another dealer.  It appears that Honda customer service doesn't do email either.

The mower is great, but grass catcher ( bag) is the worst that I've ever used. I use the mower on a tall fescue lawn. The dust flies out not good for allergies. Called Honda and they told me it was for the air flow, what a joke. I have used Snapper and Craftsmen mowers and never had this issue.I guess I have to buy mask to ware when I use this unit (HRX217HZA). Come on Honda your suppose to be the best fix this problem.

Response from Honda

We're sorry to hear you're unhappy with your bagging performance.

A lawn mower works like a vacuum cleaner.  The grass bag is designed to allow air to pass through while capturing grass clippings. It's not designed to "filter" dust. Good air flow is critical to achieve excellent bagging performance.

Typically dust is not a problem, but it can become a issue sometimes when mowing in very dry or dusty conditions. There are a couple of solutions you might try: watering more often, raising the cutting height, or mulching.  We'd especially recommend giving partial mulching a try.  The Versamow system lets you adjust the amount mulched so you'll find it still leaves you with a manicured look.  Plus it has the added benefit of adding valuable nutrients to your lawn.

I did much research and decided to go with this one (HRX217K4HZA), MISTAKE! the same day and the first time I used it to mow my lawn the motor stalled half way through and had no compression! My yard is not big at all! Thankfully the dealership I purchased it from replaced it with a new one that is still in the box as I'm writing this. I called Honda to see if they would reimburse/compensate me in any way for the problem.  Nope! I was told I'm lucky that the dealership gave me a new one, Honda would have just fixed it! However I did inform Honda that I would be writing this for social media and Honda has no problem with me doing so, That's insane considering the $900.00 cost.

I have a very mature, thick lawn. I have used various brands of mowers over the years without satisfactory results. The mulching feature always left a clippings trail on one side of the mower.  I purposely set the height at 2.5 a full setting lower than I normally cut and the results were amazingly clean. (No more overlapping mowing!) The electric start, blade and drive engagement are smooth and easy to operate. I would recommend this mower to anybody who is looking for commercial grade results and durability. The results are well worth the few extra dollars.

This mower is a BEAST!

The only way I can put it is this thing is a beast, it will pull you if you arn't quick enough, it has lots of power. The last mower I had couldn't handle my yard. I dont have a huge yard but it isn't small by any standard and my old mower would stop constantly and had to pull the grass out of it and was constantly re cranking it and it just wore me out. I dont know why i didn't get this mower sooner, it is soo efficient and it didn't stop on me once. It just chugged right through it all. Now because it is a beast it does consume alot more gas, with my old mower i would be able to do my whole yard with one full tank but with this mower it takes two which is expected since it has so much power. I love the double blades, man it makes the grass clippings soo fine that you dont even know where the mulch goes and I still can't find where it releases. Usually after I mowed, there would be clumps of grass everywhere but with this mower my grass looks clean cut with no clumps anywhere! Love the electric start makes life easier and also love that you dont have to turn it off to empty the bag or pick up something, you can just leave it idle until your ready to keep on mowing. Would definitely recommend this mower to anyone with a medium to large lawn.
