Best generator on the market for it's size, hands down

I bought this generator when I purchased my concession trailer.  It's the best one I've ever had. Full load and you can stand right next to it and have a normal conversation.  I have people comment on it all the time.  I will be buying another one of these in the future.  My current one has a little over 800 hours on it, and the only thing I've had to do is change the oil.  I can run a 10 hour day on one tank of gas easily. It's pricey, but well worth every penny.

Nice machine, very easy to Start with & without battery.

My only concern is with the sound db, that is over 58 Db.

I use my iphone Decibel X Pro App to check the sound level with the ECO Throttle SW off (EU7000is on the ground in my garage and the garage door open).

With this and other iphone decibel App, I get a reading of: 75-80 Db

with the ECO Throttle SW ON I get 70 – 74 Db

Is this normal?

Thanks

Bought this product for household emergencies, in case fire, power outage, earthquake, and recently mudslides, etc, etc,....... To be able to run all our household in case this does unfold. The quality of this generator in top notch,  I mean top notch. the controls, to the ease of use, and the ability to move it around is great. The power capability is again top notch. This will run the entire house laundry, lights, heater, its awesome. We hooked not up to the electrical panel as we installed a new one, and had our electrician set it up for us to be able to use this generator for emergencies. Great, great product.

I was skeptical about a $4000 generator.  But, the more reviews I read, the more I was convinced that the EU7000 was the machine I needed.  I'm glad I came to that decision.  This thing works great.  I live entirely off grid and use the Honda as a backup to my solar system.  It does a great job.  The engine starts with ease.  My wife hated the old recoil start !  And this thing is super quiet.  In Eco Mode it is easy to forget it is on.  In regular mode it sounds like a well tuned car at idle.  The Eco Mode works great.  It ramps up the engine flawlessly as loads increase, and drops the RPMs back to 2400 when demand is low.  The power produced it excellent.  All the components are top notch. Even the GFI Outlets are of higher quality that other generators I have owned.  All generators make electricity.  Many do it very well.   But overall, the EU7000 makes power at a quality level above the others I've owned.   Yeah ….  $4000 is a lot for a 7000 watt generator.  But if your generator is an important component in your life, it is $4000 you won't regret spending.

Purchased generator and when time for it's oil change per owner's manual, went to change oil.  Followed instructions listed in owner's manual.  Very simple task turned into very difficult when the drain bolt would not budge.  Using the appropriate size, 12 mm socket, it would not budge.  I went and bought a new 12 mm socket, just in case something was wrong with mine.  Still wouldn't budge.  Took it to a shop listed on Honda's automated phone listing for approved service shops.  They could not budge it and stated something was wrong.  Called Honda's warranty department and they told me to take it in for service and gave me a couple other places to choose from.  They also started a case at this time.  When I picked up the generator after being serviced the shop stated they used a "special tool" to remove it and replaced with a new drain bolt.  Honda's warranty department refused to pay for it, basically said it was my fault the bolt wouldn't come out.  Said a machine puts the generator together, therefore no way the bolt was improperly installed.  Ok Honda.....  Customer service goes a long way and poor customer service is a game changer.  Won't buy Honda again.

I bought this generator due to the PG&E shut downs in northern California this year . I was running the house on my two Honda eu2000i gens rotating them day to day and when needing 220v for running my well pumps I would run my 6250w generator which was very screaming loud and the voltage was not real steady. So I decided to pull the trigger and purchase the eu7000is and I am glad I did , the unit is so very quit which my wife and I like a lot, the  voltage is dead on steady and pretty good on gas . only con was the price but you get what you pay for . Things to know- it weighs 261 lbs., you will need to purchase 3 quarts of 10-30 oil. 1.1 quarts for first 20 hours of break in period, then change oil.  You will have to attach the axle, wheels and feet. Having a cherry picker and strap to elevate it makes it easy. The battery is not connected, and you will find the connection bolts taped to the battery and not in the package that has the other hardware.

The generator is far superior and quieter than other same power generators I have owned.

My first choice was the eu3000is (home depot returned it)  as I needed both ACs on my RV (13.5k and 15k BTU ) and for this big boy EU7000is can run them no problem.  One AC was just not enough and when it was 105 outside and I was cool in the trailer while running the fridge and charging the batteries. I plan on installing an ATS switch for my house too!  For now it just for my RV.   I have 40 hours so far with no issues.  Oh maybe  One issue is hard to move into back on my Ford Expedition, so I like to get a baby EU7000is lets call it a EU2500is with fuel injection and remote start please Honda.  Until then I might have to get a 2200is to bring on the road as my EU7000is is a beast but love it.  Just to hard to move it in and out of my Expedition.  I purchase from local dealer in Livermore, Ca called Livermore Saw and Mower on 3nd st 925.447.2055.  they delivered it to my house and showed me how to run it.  They are great!  Home depot did not sell the big Honda generator.   Honda Customer service was very helpful and answered all my question before and after I purchased my generator.  Thank you Honda.

I.m located in the So. California desert, Slab City east of Niland, CA.  Our summer temps can exceed 115F in the shade.  I purchased my 7K specifically to power two roof top A/C units on my RV.  The day I picked it up from the dealer I connected it to the rig via my shore power cable and ran the two A/C units.  My surge protector liked what it saw and had no problems.  After 2.5 hours the 7k sputtered and the RPM's dropped, voltage dropped below 104V and the surge protector dropped the connection, as designed.  This happened every day for a week, it would run no more than 2.5 hours.  Honda tech support was no help, "Gee, it shouldn't do that", "Never heard of that before", "We'll refer it to the engineers", were the type of responses I got.  It would always fail with an E0A code.  After extensive troubleshooting on my part, I determined it was being starved of gas, I removed the gas cap and it ran fine for days on end.  I believe the problem is the gas gets so hot, the tank was 186F using an IR temp gauge, that bubbles formed in the gas line and caused the failure.  The vent hole on the gas cap is simply too small and a vacuum is created in the tank, gas won't flow properly.  It's physically located in a totally shaded gazebo structure open on all four sides to allow airflow.  So if you have one that fails like mine, with an E0A code, the fix may be as simple as removing the gas cap.  Oh yea, on the face plate of the unit it says "Operating temperature 30C, that's 86F, I gotta believe 90% of the world where these are used exceeds 86F in the summer.

I already have a Honda 2000 (for hunting & fishing in my camper) but wanted to cover the entire house electrical demand for next summer's shut-downs and this new genset will do it.

When I first started the 7000FI my wife said that it wasn't any louder than my small generator and then when I turned on the eco switch it really got quiet!

The unit was on a pallet and was easy for me to move it off and install the wheels and stands. The pre-start up instruction are simple and I had it running in no time!

I now realize why HONDA Products are held in such high esteem. We had a Forced Utility Company Black Out, whereby a "PENDING" warning was submitted via a TEXT message at 24 and 48 hours that our power would be shut off to our entire community homes and business'.  When it actually occurred people were left to scramble for answers and the closest generator to our home was a 400 mile drive.  Fortunately, we called a small rental establishment 60 miles away and purchased the very last HONDA GENERATOR they had for sale.  I plugged it into our 5000 square foot home which included our water well and after 20 straight hours it still had gas in the tank, when our power was restored. This HONDA GENERATOR was literally not even heard over our ceiling fan the entire 20 hours. I am now going to purchase another twin generator to run my Private Practice when they shut off the Power again which they are threatening to do.  Thank You HONDA for the QUALITY Craftsmanship & your Detail to Excellence in building such an EXEMPLARY PRODUCT.

I purchased this generator for back up power after losing power for 5 days after a severe storm. When the generator was delivered by my Honda dealer I had them wheel it into the garage. The dealer's representative went over the generator with me to make sure I understood how to operate and maintain the generator. We started it for the first time about 3 feet from the door between the kitchen and garage. After I shut it back out my wife came out. She wasn't able to hear inside the house. This generator is amazingly quiet. Starting with the electric start is a breeze too. Something I have come to expect from Honda since I have a 15 year old Honda HRB 317 Harmony lawn mower that always seems to start on the first or second pull. I expect to never to have to replace this unit. This EU7000i generator has sufficient output to power most everything I need when I lose city power and the cost was thousands less than the budget busting whole house generators I had priced previously. The maximum decibel rating is only 58 db the smallest of the series the EU2000i is rated at 57 db, I found that impressive! You can find less expensive generators but what good is it if the generator keeps you and the whole neighborhood awake at night?

The engine is quiet which is a big plus as the generator is located in our service truck and is parked close to the kitchen. The power output is a clean sine wave that can be used for any equipment. Current surges from cooling systems starting do not cause voltage sags. The L.E.D. lighting in the kitchen does not flicker under generator power. This is a great mobile generator.

Barely used the machine and on day four of running a ground heater ( not much load just a pump and boiler) the generator would not restart after refueling. Totally screwed us on a weeks labor and four days of gas and diesel. Tried basic diagnostics on it like spark plug and the fuel filter that's a pain to deal with and no luck. I totally agree with the other reviews for this generator:  very quiet, started right up first time and practically instantly thereafter.  The inverter AC output is very clean and will operate any electronic device without the square waveshape (usually called a modified sinewave) and it's several harmonics that often will not allow an pc's apc battery backup to charge.  That's what I had and sold to buy this generator.  One should also consider that most of today's freezers, refrigerators, and heat pump blowers (fan units) all have electronic controls which could be damaged by non-inverter generators.  Replacing those devices control units is likely to be expensive and you might not have them available during power outages if they burn up while using non-inverter generators.  It all depends on how "clean" the AC power output is.

You will need some means to raise the Honda up to install the wheels - I used a come-along attached to the overhead beams in my garage which made it easy.  The pre-installed handles allow it to be moved around but even with the added handle length it is still a bit heavy.

Instead, I replaced the metal feet with some 4" dia. castored swivel wheels with brakes (I highly recommend the brake optionto keep it from moving while running).  I had to make an spacer-adapter (about 11/16" in this case) between the wheels and frame to keep the generator level and also adapt the mounting hole patterns.  This makes it extremely easy to move around - even with just two fingers on smooth level surfaces.

So, yeah, it costs a lot, but you definitely get what you pay for with clean, reliable power in an easy to start generator.

This is actually the third Honda generator I have purchased in the past 10 years. I completely rely on these tough little workhorses and I would recommend this line to anyone in the market for power on the go.

I am a Mobile Groomer and I started out with the EU3000is which was great but I could only use two major appliances at a time so I had to be aware of my power draw. I sold the EU3000is still running like a top after a couple years of using it every day on the job. I purchased a EU6500is and ran on that one for 5 more years raking up an impressive 8400 hours!! It still runs like a top but I decided to but a new EU7000is because of the amount of time I had on the EU6500is. I still have the older one and I use it when the power goes out at home.

The only maintanence was changing the oil every 100 hours which my husband performed religiously...and runniing it by the Honda dealer twice a year to replace the air filter and sprak plug as needed. I admit I probably should have had the spark plug and air filter changed more often but I never had a problem and they never let me down...NEVER!

I find it very rare that a product lives up to the hype on the Internet, but this one far exceeds it.  It is everything I was told it would be-quiet, fuel efficient, easy to maintain and powerful.  Harmonic distortion is next to nothing which makes it safe to run sensitive equipment like computers, ipad, etc.  Local service is great through Quality Power as they will come out and pick up/deliver the unit for a very nominal fee in the rare case that the unit needs to go in for service.

We had our first power outage 3 days after this was installed.  In less than 3 minutes we had power restored to our home.  No problem simultaneously running the refrigerator/freezer, a separate garage freezer, 2 portable air conditioners, TV, computer, multiple LED lights and microwave.  On temporarily shutting off the air conditioners I could even use the cooktop and coffee maker to make breakfast.  The most amazing thing is that it ran for 12 hours on a 5 gallon tank of fuel (and that was with very inefficient, indiscriminate use of power).  Equally as important, Honda was very responsive to questions by both email and phone.  My only regret is that I did not purchase this sooner as I have suffered through these power outages in Florida for almost 40 years!

One other point-do not be tempted to save money by buying a conventional generator.  Even though this unit is far more expensive, the quietness, fuel efficiency and pureness of power along with the quality of construction makes it well worth the extra cost.

I purchased 2 Honda EU2000i generators in the past (4 years old), which are still working very well.  No issues whatsoever.  Extremely quiet, portable and can be linked.  Needed a larger generator for a camper and general usage and I chose the EU7000is for it's power and semi-portability (a little heavy to lift!), but once on the ground, the handle and wheels make it easy to move around.  Electric start and fuel injected!  Great generator!!  Extremely quiet!!!  You can stand right next to it and carry on a conversation.  Powered a 28 foot Airstream without a hitch (50 amp).  Will most likely buy another one.  Will be great if they can be linked in the near future.  It is an expensive unit, however, well worth it considering the quality and the quietness of the product.  Worked great while having our Memorial Day Weekend party at the river this year.  Didn't even notice it running at all :)

I spent a lot of time researching this rather major purchase, and Honda didn't disappoint. Their reputation for building a quality product that does exactly what they say it will do is well illustrated by this remarkable machine. The EU7000iS has state of the art design features that I believe justify it's lofty price point among its competitors. I especially like the fuel injection feature, very smooth and even running engine, quiet volume for a generator of this size, and the inverter design which delivers stable electric power to our several electronically controlled household appliances and computer equipment. The unit runs everything in our home (3 BR, AC, well pump, well equipped shop.) Bravo EU7000iS!

I invested $8000 on 2 of these so I could run them parallel for larger gigs and had the versatility split them up into different areas on smaller gigs.  With that said, even though the manual shows a parallel kit, it is 100% not available and the the folks on the phone at Honda power were extremely vague as to if/when one will be available.

Either get your Sh&%t together and release the kit or change your manual and online specs that say you offer it.

I am currently now paying a substantial monthly payment on the generators and am still forced to rent generators for larger gigs.

Not cool.

We purchased a Honda EU7000 generator for our business. I must say this is the best generator that we have ever owned!! Super quiet and easy to operate, and it has an eco throttle that will make it even more quiet.. This is the type of generator you need if you are working in residential neighborhoods. I also like the fuel gauge and control panel that displays the hours used and lets me know that everything is running smooth with the generator. Great job on design and engineering Honda, no other generator comes close. Do yourself a favor if you have any other generator that you use on a daily basis sell it, and buy one of these generators you won't regret it!

This is the best investment I have made other than our camper.

We have a bigger camper so we had to upgrade from our EU 3000 i to The EU 7000 is.

Both were great investments. Most state campgrounds have you shut your generators off at 2300 hours, but with any Honda generator we have owned we can leave ours run 24/7 without anyone complaining about NOISE.

So quiet and economical to run. Maintenance done at the dealers annually will keep you on top of your power game.

i bought this generator / inverter as a back up generator for my home. This thing is awesome! It was easy to mount the wheel kit. I put in the battery, and attached a battery tender to the battery. The battery had over an 80% charge on it from the factory. I put a quart of 10W30 motor oil in it. Disconnected the battery tender. Took her outside and fueled it up. Put in the key; hit the starter; and she fired right up. The GFCI receptacles passed their test, and i ran a test load on her flawlessly. She’s pretty quiet with the Eco switch off, and she really quieted down when i turned the Eco switch on after a few minutes. I love this thing! High quality, and i know we’ll be able to sleep when we lose power again and have to use her for back up power. I’ve been in the fire department for 35 years. We only use Honda portable generators in our department because we know they’re reliable and always start with proper use and maintenance.

I have had this generator for about 3 years now, It has started and run perfectly. I used it both for whole house backup and to power a 220V MIG welder. It did a great job of both. It was able to run my well  pump and central AC, as long as both motors did not start simultaneously. Computers and televisions ran with no problems.  After 3 years, I decided to replace this Honda with an automatically operated 22KW Generac.  The main reason was that Honda (still) has not come through with a remote starter.  The natural gas Generac, installation included, cost a shade over $8000, and will run everything I have - including well pump, electric water heater, microwave oven, central hear and AC, lights, computers, and televisions. No more having to go outside to refuel, and to start and stop, and all for not a huge purchase price over the Honda. The Generac is a bit louder but adjusts speed to load.  The Honda is now for sale. It served its purpose quite well, and if remote start was available, I'd have kept it.

As i write this my gen set has 1876hrs of almost constant use.i have been dilagent with maintence 18 oil changes, 4 spark plugs changed,4 air filter changes. My only problem has been not starting due to 3amp fuse failure, and subsequently not shutting down via key switch on 3 occassions. I pulled the fuses and cleaned everything with contact cleanerthinking this would solve my problem. Again it wouldnt shut down so i removed the battery cover and jiggled the cables behind the fuse holder with the switch in the off position and the generator shut down. Im still not sure about the cause of this problem but other than that i am satisfied with th equipment. Any suggestions? How many hours should my generator last with this kind of use.

Black Max 7000- Honda Moto, purchased in Sam's a couple of years back, too noisy, spends $15 per day in gasoline. Got a Honda Inverter 3000 online from Generator Depot, arrived well, ran the whole house, excellent economy, went to $15 every 2.5 days. But when we got the air conditioner on the generator would rev up every time the compressor would activate. So got the EU 7000is and it is quietest generator and handles all of my homes needs. Even the air conditioners. Pricey but excellent performance and very quiet!

I welcomed this new generator after Hurricane Maria devastated my island (St Croix) and have been using it twice daily for weeks. The eco throttle is so quiet my cat enjoys sleeping on the roof of the generator house!

It replaced my 20 year old Honda gen EM5000sx (that was still working). My cat wouldn't get within 50 feet of that noisy old one!

Almost 200 hours on this one now and it's never missed a beat. We primarily use it for our food truck. Canada Day 150 this year put it to its biggest test and it performed flawlessly. It ran the concession trailer, which has a propane heated mini donut machine (which uses electric motors to move the donuts), exhaust fan, mixer, lights, 12 volt dc converter for the water pump as well as everything outside: two commercial cotton candy machines, sno-kone machine, 8 ounce popcorn machine and a 30 year old deep freezer. This thing is crazy what its capable of. We also used it recently to power our home in a recent 25 hour power outage. It easily runs 15 hours on eco mode with time to spare on its 5 gallon fuel tank. The only quirk is sometimes I have to press the start button a couple times, or hold it before it'll start. Also to note, it started no problem during winter when the temperature was -20 degrees C (-4F)

AND IT CONSUMED ONLY HALF A TANK (2.5 GALLONS) AMAZING!!!!!! IT IS VERY ECONOMICAL AND EASY TO HANDLE.

I had a Honda 6500 fully enclosed like the Honda 7000 with eco switch purchased in August 1992 day after Hurricane Andrew. It was ran for 30 days before our power was restored. After that it was employed for many storms #hurricane. When i moved to central Florida it was to heavy for me to move gave it my Daughter, who today has had it running for 7days after Irma.

I had bought a 5500w Champion Duel fuel  what a mistake took delivery week before Hurricane Irma it started the day I received it after installing oil and plunging it in to propane , ran for 15 min and put it away. week later day after storm took it out would not start on propane put gas in still no start would sputter then quit.

Contacted tech. support for champion, to shorten this they refereed me to  two dealers for warranty work One refused to take my machine in for warranty work reason lack of payments from Champion. the other would only work on it If purchased from there store, they no longer carry Champion products.

My salvation for 4 days was my little Honda 2000 from my camper which ran my frig & freezer

Have learned my lesson (Buy cheap get cheap)

Have ordered a Honda 7000Is

Footnote one night during power outage I could not hear my 6500 running walked down the hallway to the utility room where it was installed, opened the door and it was purring away. said dume ass self the lights were on that should have been a clue that it was still running.

we got caught in the grasp of IRMA. I have a lagre home and motherinlaw detached. Also have a 30 foot 5th wheel. I am a Honda man for many years. Still have a EX4500 in our lake house in Sebring Florida. That one is loaned out to a neighbor. My eu2000is Is at my mothers house in Sebring to run her frig. My other eu2000is was running in Bradenton home for the frig and tv/cable/internet. My eu3000is was running my 5th wheel until it crooked. My 3500 Champion invert unit was running the mothernlaw appartment. I have wanted to see what the eu7000is was all about. Now that i am in dire need of a real power plant. Yesterday I got word that Centeral Florida Yamaha had a shipment of new Hondas. I made the 85 mile round trip to pick up the generator. I made a twist lock adapter to run the 5th wheel. By 7pm every thing was running, 5thwheel, mother in law and main house. A total of 3600 watts. I still had 2000 watts of reserve. The great news, I burned 5 gallons of gasoline in 17 hours. The next best news, my 5th wheel is about 20 feet away and hardly notice the generator running.

Unpacking and intalling the wheels on the generator was a little cumbersome by myself, but was managable. After adding the oil, gas, and connecting the battery the generator fired right up. I still cant believe how quiet this generator is compared to our other non inverter generator. You can stand right next to it and easily have a conversation. Nut for negative battery terminal doesn't seat, so be prepared for front panel removal or using picks, hooks, and time on your knees to do it right. If you 'mess up', things fall into the bottom case. You'll probably doubt Honda's sanity or question their design prowess with this battery arrangement but overall this generator with it's fuel efficiency is an engineering marvel and with proper maintenance well worth the premium price....over time. I had an older Honda generator seize due to a faulty low oil warning sensor (out-of-warantee), so don't count on a low oil warning :-)

After a little research on the Internet, it seems as if Honda can’t get the parallel kit to work properly. I would have gone a different route had I known that the parallel kit is still non-existent.

If you’re not going to release a parallel kit, you should stop advertising that it does parallel!!!

Just picked up a new unit from the dealer. When idling or under light load in eco mode, there is a distinct "whine" that comes from the front of the unit. The whine is not there under load or when eco mode is off. This whine is definitely noticeable and impacts how loud the unit is. In a campground the utility of eco mode is diminished.

The dealer contacted Honda technical support and was told "this was normal". I have other Honda generators that do not do this in eco mode, I have not seen this issue referenced anywhere else in research, so it could be my unit. Neither my wife or I are overly picky, but she noticed the issue without my saying anything.

Otherwise it's an absolutely fabulous generator. 5 star except for this issue.

Just purchased this "Top of the Line" generator/inverter. Arrived a few days ago and I left it in the box until my transfer switch wiring was completed (Yesterday). So, yesterday I set it up, which is simple to do, just bolt on the legs and wheels, fill the oil and gas. I connected it to my new system, fired it up and it started on the very first push of the button. I tested my system to make sure it worked and it worked perfectly, all circuits were fine and running as expected. I shut it down and disconnected the cord to my house. I started it again and tested the outlets on the unit with a light cord and the portable light worked fine. I shut it down again and stored it in my workshop - all smiles.

GREAT, you may say. Oh, nay nay!! Today I took my wife out to the shop to show her how easy it was to start the new generator for when the power outages occur. IT WOULD NOT START! The electric start grinds for 5 seconds and then stops. I followed ALL the "helpful" hints, every single one of them - including the hand pull routine and checking the spark plug, etc. it WILL NOT START! So much for relying on it for "emergency" power. I now have a $4,000 doorstop. Am I happy?? You take three guesses!

i bought twi eu7000's about two years ago and they are super quiet but the file system on them is junk the only fuel filter on the dang thing is a in tank straining sock that clogs about ever 200-500 hours and it doesn't catch everything. What the tank sock misses ends up in the fuel injector witch has a screen that clogs. How hard would it hav been to put a serviable filter that the customer could do apnpart of a preventive mantance? Also the Fuel injection is plastic of some type and gets brittle with time/heat. My other complaint is it's an open loop fuel system that does not reference temp or altitude so it runs like crap at elevation all hondas cars use a closed loop system with an O2 sensor why no the eu.as others have mentioned it is heavy but not enough to be a problem. It also vibrates a LOT  An wares the parallel kit I bought with my units that in 2015 Honda said would be released in November and the Manuel said summer of 2015 by the way oh ya and the recommended ambient temp of 38 deg cel. This Generator is a great unit, it makes the same amount of noise as the EU3000is which is not very load. The run time is super long when the unit is on eco throttle, feet and wheels are great it rolls just fine on gravel and rough terrain. The 240v option is an awesome future as well as the LCD display that gives you output wattage, engine RPM, and hours, so you can do oil changes on time and not load the unit beyond its rated capacity.

My new EU7000is FI generator, though kindly spendy, is, but wait . . . actually getting better fuel economy than my EU 3000is, for my purposes. Honda said it gets 25% better fuel economy than the previous but same-in-size EU6500is carbureted model, but better than the EU3000is? My EU7000 barely runs over an idle while putting out 2200 watts. At 2800 watts, (which is where my EU3000 is blasting full throttle) this big 7 is just idled up a bit, and the fuel injection system is so efficient, I can't believe it. But after using it a few weeks, I do believe it. And quiet? It's also quieter than my 3000, which I thought was pretty quiet.

The folding handles, the big, fairly hard tires and the five gallon fuel tank are just a few plusses.

Its equipped with GFCI 120 volt outlets that use a floating neutral, which sucks a bit. for certain motors. It tends to trip easily with certain types of motors, such as my well pump, where my 3000 does not.

The digital engine hour, peak voltage, RPM and watts-out meter is real handy. But I love the push-button starter the most. It's so choice.

Who cares if this thing weighs 300 pounds? It's not hard to haul around with the big, beefy handles. All and all, it's a superior generator, and, it's a Honda.

i thought i bought this generator to have a piece of mind, i am not happy at all with it.

this past saturday was my first event for the year and i thought it will be fine, but again not even 3 hours running and here it goes down again. have to stop everything. that is not good at all.

i need someones help on this. we checked the oil level too. i opened the valve for the oil and it was boiling, is that ok? idk. i am not into these things but it looks like i must be from now on to know what the heck is going on. i cant lose more money and events. i have 16 events for this summer and i prefer to give a good review but again, i am not sure what to do with this. i am taking the generator to the shop where i bought it last year, (not even a year ago). i hope i can get some results soon, like this week.

When I learned of the the parallel kit  I immediately knew I must own one. At that time they advertised a parallel was available for the 7000. After the purchase, I learned there was actually no Parallel kit available. I contacted Honda and they said a  Parallel kit would be available by Summer 2014. Thirty minutes after getting this out of the box it was assembled and running like a top. I did a lot of research before making this purchase. I replaced a 5600W Sears that was stolen. We use this for back-up emergency power at the house and for our 5th wheel trailer. This does cost a deal more than other comparable generators but well worth the cost. For traveling with a trailer it is outstanding. I set it at the back of the trailer where the TV is located and we sit inside and do not hear it running. It is quieter than my EU2000i. I would recommend anyone spend the extra cash and buy this product from Honda.

I have 2 of these and they both have performed flawlessly. I don't need them all that often, but when I do, they HAVE TO work 100%. I provide sound and lighting systems for public and private events. Sometimes there is just no reliable power for a small or medium size event on site, so I bring my own. I use sensitive digital electronics in my systems, so the voltage stability of the fuel injection and inverter systems are VERY important in my situation. One question for the Honda folks though: When is the parallel kit for the 7000 coming out? According to your website, it was due out this last spring.....? Personally, I could really use this, as combining the outputs of 2 EU7000is generators puts me in a different league as far as power goes. I may even buy 1 or 2 more, if these hits ever see the light of day! Great product guys!

Picked this generator up at the dealers today. Took it out of the box, assembled it, put in oil and gas, charged the battery and within 1 hour from arriving home it was running. I have an EU2000 and now the EU700is and will never own another generator unless it has the Honda name stamped on the side. The electric start is fantastic for my wife. Our old generator was stolen and I looked long and hard to find this one. It is a little heavier than some others but the noise level makes up for the additional weight. Really designed nice. My father-in-law is envious!

I live on a small farm.  We use catchment water and have to pump it, so cooking, taking showers, flushing toilets and watering the animals requires electricity.

We are on the grid, and have a photovoltaic (solar) system which is grid tied.  That's good most of the time because I sell power back to the power company.  But in my rural area the grid goes down quite often due to weather and other problems and sometimes stays down for days...up to a week on occasion.

When the grid goes down, so does the PV system. It has to so it doesn't feed power back through a shorted grid or electrocute the linemen.  Battery back-up systems have problems. Batteries don't last forever and during the winter when there is no sun to power the PV system, the batteries can't recharge. So we would STILL need a generator.

I used to use a very loud 15kw generator but it used almost two gallons of gas an hour and had to be turned off at night because of the noise.  So there were no lights or fans or refrigeration or water at night and, because the PV system was asleep while the grid was down, it was totally useless even during the day.

The newer PV systems use 240v micro-inverters because 240v is more efficient than 120. So even though it doesn't necessarily use grid power, it needs to see that 240vac sine wave to trick it into switching on.

I couldn't use the big generator all day long just to keep the PV system on.  It was too expensive.  And most generators don't output a nice, full, computer-grade sine wave at 240vac.

Honda inverter generators do.

And they have an eco-switch that allows the EU7000 to idle along all day long very inexpensively and keep the PV on. At dusk, when the PV system drops out, it still has ebough fuel to power the house and pumps and run quietly all night.  On five gallons of gas.  Perfect.

So when the grid goes down, one push of a button starts the generator, activates the automatic transfer switch, and the PV system never goes off at all.  At night, we just go to sleep.  The Honda whispers.

But that's not even the best part.  It's fuel injected. You don't have to run outside in the middle of the night, turn the fuel valve on, pull the choke, prime the engine and start cranking it, hope it starts, push in the choke, warm it up and THEN do whatever you need to do to get power.

You push a button. From inside the house. You are done.  I have spent thousands on cheaper generators that fail when I need them. This one won't.

Great generator + a few things I learned along the way.

I bought this as an emergency home generator, to replace an EU300i that I found to be under-powered for what I wanted to run.  Here are some things that took me a while to sort out.

(1) It is a floating neutral generator, despite how it is listed on some web sites. Therefore it is ideal for home backup, where the neutral to ground connection is already made in the home's main service panel.  (2) There are two models of the EU7000. The earlier model has 2 20 amp outlets, while the later model has 2 pair of GFI outlets. Other than that they are equal. (3) Honda has yet to supply us with a remote starter despite having wiring for one in place. The remotes for other Honda models are not compatible with the 7000, not even the one for the 6500. Aftermarket remotes are out there, though. (4) The battery can be left connected to a charger such as a Battery Tender by running a connecting wire through the grille, so there is no need to remove the battery regularly to charge it.

The only reason for my 4-star rating in "Features" is the lack of options released by Honda. I really want the remote starter.  I do wish this site would update us with planned release dates for the remote and the parallel kit.  The EU7000is is a superb generator for home emergency use. And, it is amazingly quiet compared to its competition.

My generator and other tools live a hard life. For the most part when the show closes Sunday night at near midnite, you have to immediately tear down and load your attraction/ride, truck it all an average of 350 miles, and set up your equipment to open no later than five o'clock. This is called a Circus Jump.

This means that my generator starts running for about five hours burring tear down, because the show electricians cut off all the loads except for rides that need power to assist proper tear down and loading; so I need my own power source, and usually at the other end of the jump. A couple of the generator trailers are sent to the next fair to have power when the first rides arrive. A generator truck is a tractor-trailer unit with two generators mounted on the trailer between 155 and 300 KVA three phase at 120/208 volt "Y." Our show has four trailers.

Usually there are not enough generator units available to help more than the rides set up for three to five hours so my Honda gets another workout.

Any problems? No, but I didn't buy the accessory cord. My tent is 40' wide and can be set-up 60', 80' or 100 feet long depending on the anticipated audiences. I therefore need to set up the generator ten feet outside the stake line and run a 75' cord from the generator to a distro box with four 20A. single pole breakers, and 4 duplex 20A. receptacles. We need lights as soon as we can get the generator running to facilitate the removal of the stage, show lighting and seating. most of tear down we have work lights and power tools running with a max load of about 6,500W. but usually about 4,500 -5,000W This includes a lighted snack table with two Mr. Coffees and a mini-fridge.

It would take a 40 KVA three phase generator to run the show, with the balley front stage, house lights, sound, safety systems and fans but I have a transfer switch set-up to use selected house lights and backstage lights, and partial sound system for safety announcements when show power fails so I can start the Honda and safely evacuate the tent.

After all this detail, intended to inform the potential user as to the conditions I expect my generator to serve.

I run the generator about 700 hours a year and it has had only one notable problem when a breaker failed, which was easily fixed with a breaker from my spares stock. (When you are in a different town each week, 46 weeks a year, you don't have reliable contacts to buy repair parts, so you keep a "nuts-and-bolts" inventory of spare parts.) Cosmetically, the unit looks beat-up, but it has lasted six months longer than usual, (just less than two years on the average,) and has every sign of being useful for another year.

I would say this generator was one of my better investments.

Almost perfect

The EU7000 is everything the enthusiasts and Consumer Reports have hailed it to be. Yes, it's comparatively quiet, seems to be easy on fuel, provides enough clean power for my needs, it's heavy. It's damn expensive, but there is one thing I'll complain about: the battery. It's a major nuisance to hook up and there's no way to charge it w/o removing it! Why in the world didn't Honda include a connector for an external battery charger?!

Think about it! What if you had the genny in storage and a storm came along which required it's use. If the battery is dead and there's no power in the house, how will you charge the battery? You'd have to start the unit with the recoil rope, remove the battery from the tight compartment (hoping that you don't lose the nuts for the bolts which attach the battery cables to the battery), hook a battery charger up to the generator, charge the battery, and re-install the thing. If there were an external battery access connector a very small trickle charger could be left attached while the unit is in storage. I have only put 28 hours on mine so far.

Response from Honda

Hi Rick, Honda offers a battery tender accessory with quick connect cables that makes it very easy to connect a battery charger.  Your local dealer can help you with this.  The part number for the quick connect cables is 41670-HPE-000.  The battery tender is 31670-HPE-000.  There is also a waterproof version, 32670-HPE-000.

i had a onan 12kw diesel generator that was always having issues with either its board, fuel pump or general wiring (wires became brittle from the heat!) and decided it was time for an upgrade. i switched to the eu7000is since i have owned eu2000is in the past and can trust a honda generator. the Onan i had was able to power 4 flat screen tvs, 4 video game systems and 2 rooftop air conditioners. well the honda rep advised me that the eu7000is can handle one rooftop air conditioner and everything else. well i bought it and also bought a adapter to plug in my 50amp service connector. the eu7000is is crazy quiet, im talking peanuts compared to the onans supposed quiet genset technology. what suprised me even more was that the watt meter on the eu7000is was reading 2450 VA for one air conditioner and all my other equipment. so since i knew that if the second air conditioner was too much it would just pop the circuit breaker i flipped it on and lo and behold some of the lights dimmed, the generator dropped in rpm and then started to purr again. total wattage was 3950VA and the recommended max output was 5500VA which means i was using less than the recommended and in the safe zone!! the intial start up surge of the air conditioners was what worried me but the eu7000is handled it like a champ and i didnt have to lose any business from not having a working generator. my only quip so far is that it weighs 370lbs compared to the onan 1500lbs and im afraid if i leave it in the bed of my work truck a group of determined individuals might steal it. so ill be finding a way to bolt it down in the bed of my work truck followed by figuring out how to split the fuel line to supply gas from my 30 gallon work truck gas tank to feed the eu7000is.

also Honda if youre reading this, you need to come out with a weather proof cover stat!

I ordered and received the 2014 EU7000is, uncrated and filled it with oil & gas.  I pulled started it at first, and it started in 2 pulls, without the battery connected.  I then connected the battery and it started easily by turning the key on and pushing the start button.

I had ordered a 10 ft. power cord to fit the 240vac/30amp Receptacle on the Generator and then modified the other end and installed a Marinco 50 amp RV Plug to match my RV Receptacle.  I then plugged it in and turned it on and it operated correctly, no problems.  I then turned on both A/C units (15,000 & 12,000 btu about 3100 watt combined) and the Electric Water Heater (1500 watt) and it purred right along, no problems.  Keep in mind I also had the Refrigerator, Ceiling Fan, and several 120vac lights on.  I decided to test the overload protection, so I then had my wife put a cup of water in the Microwave on High Power (1600 watts), while I watched the I-monitor that depicts the Volt/Amps demand. (Volt x Amps = watts).  When the microwave was switched "On", the I-monitor immediately showed an "Overload" and the "Overload Lamp" turned on, after a few seconds it "tripped" out stopped generating power.  The engine was still running, but no power was being generated.  This is exactly what I had expected AND exactly what it was supposed to do, but I needed to test the overload protection to ensure it was working correctly.

I then reset my A/C's, turned the generator off, restarted the generator.  This restart is what "resets" the generator and it was ready to go for Round 2.  With both A/C's on plus the Water Heater again, I activated the Satellite Dish and turned on all 3 TV's ... everything it worked flawlessly.  Did I mention I also had the Refrigerator, Ceiling Fan, and several lights on the whole time.  I ran it for 2-3 hours like this and it was perfect.

I also tested the ECO-mode and it "load-sensed" correctly and throttled up the engine as needed, no problems.  Not sure I would run ECO-mode with heavy loads, but during Spring & Fall it should be great.  It should save you fuel you don't need to burn.

I own a 2008 Honda EU2000i which is rated at 59db and the EU7000is is rated at 60db, but to be honest I could hear the EU2000i over the EU7000is, I think due to the EU2000i seems to have a higher frequency sound as compared to the lower "rumble" of the EU7000is.  We tailgate at college football games and the university has "rules" about the loud generators.  The Honda EU2000i is completely acceptable and is the preferred generator, but when I heard the EU7000is running at full load I was very pleased to know that I could take it to the occasional "larger" tailgate parties as well.

Thanks Honda, Great Product, Again!
