Connect To Your Home

When powering your home, the generator is only half of the equation. You’ll also want to consider how to connect the generator to your home safely.

Connecting a Generator to Your Home

Safety First

  • Always run portable generators outdoors, at least 20 away from windows, doors, and vents. Never run a generator in your garage.
  • Use a battery powered carbon monoxide detector in your home.
  • Don’t run a generator in the rain. Water and electricity do not mix! Keep your generator dry.
  • Never connect the generator directly to a wall outlet - use a transfer switch. Or, use an extension cord to plug appliances directly into generator.
  • Don’t refuel the generator while it is running. Turn it off and let it cool down.
