Honda Mower

So far so good. I have only used the mower 3 times. What I like about it is the quality and the ease of mowing. The only draw backs so far are minor ones: the mower seems to bounce around when mowing sideways on a hill, like the mower was not heavy enough or the tires are not gripping enough. The other concern I have is when I am done mowing and am washing down the machine it is very hard to wash out the grass clippings from the chute area when in the mulch mode. Not a big deal just need to find a better way of doing it. Other than that the machine is built well and does a fine job of cutting with the twin blades.

No Stars yet on overall and ease of use however can rate quality and features 5 stars. Set up out of the box was easy and would have been ready to mow in about 5 minutes, however just mowed and needed to purchase gas. After reading all the reviews can't wait to use the mower. I sold my Zero turn riding mower to purchase this self propelled mower, yard to small for riding mower. I used a Honda self propelled mower that my landlord had provided to keep the lawn mowed worked great. The use of that mower is reason I purchased this Honda mower. Will write another review once I use the mower.

Great mower, in 50 years possibly the best I've ever had! I have a large magnolia tree right in the center of my yard, I like to mulch my grass, but the magnolia leaves always leave a mess so I have to rake before mowing. After modifying the bag/mulch selector with a handle bar control, I don't have to stop to switch to bag when I hit the leaves, I just throw the control to bag and plow right into the leaves and switch right back to mulch without stopping. I've tried several times to contact Honda R&D with no luck. I'd sell them the rights to my idea if they would contact me.

Great Value

Easy starting, cuts very evenly, good quality One small complaint: mulched grass sometimes clogs under mower and causes mulch/bag slider difficult to move. Must be unclogged by hand.

Great Lawn Mower, But A Little Problem

I have had Honda lawn mowers for many years and I believe in their products. The HRN216VYA seems to do the job, but I have one major complaint about this new model, the catch bag constantly falls off during mowing. This is very irritating and probably a safety issue. I did read something about this in a earlier review by someone else, but I haven't seen anything from Honda in response to this problem. I do understand they are aware of this issue and I hope that they come up with some replacement parts to repair this. Overall, disregarding the bag issue, the lawn mower is a great unit, my lawn looks like a green carpet, perfect. The only reason I left off one star on the ratings is due to the problem with the catch bag. After Honda gets this situation repaired, I would suggest to people looking for a lawn mower to buy this one, also, I will change my ratings to 5*****'s. Looking forward to Honda's response and replacement parts.... Thank you for taking the time to read this, hope it will be helpful with your decision. Happy Mowing, Take care,

Love this lawnmower

I had a Honda lawnmower for over 18 years and felt it was time for a new one. I did not hesitate to get another Honda since my previous one worked so well. Love this new one. The ability to stop the blade while keeping the lawnmower running is really cool. Also really like the height adjustment ease with just one lever for the front and one for the back.

Everthing 100%.

Did extensive research on several mowers both gas and battery powered before purchasing the Honda mower, it performs excellent, really like the roto stop blade feature, it makes relocating mower from lower backyard to upper front yard very easy without blades spinning.I've used the mower for bagging and mulching and it cuts great, very easy to start and maneuver

My 13 year old Honda mower had given me a few repair issues through the years, but it did a good job. This new mower seems to do a bit nicer job at mulching than the old mower, with about the same size engine. The new mower has slightly smaller wheels which don't handle quite as well over rough terrain, but it's not a big issue. The one thing that disappointed me were the bare metal handles. I wrapped some friction tape on them which solved the problem. Both mowers start with the first pull, which is nice. The twin blades do a nice job.

I'd do it again, even though

I live in the Northwest. That being said I have cut wet grass, dry grass, bagged, and mulched on a bigger than normal yard that has a lot of mow arounds and is bumpy in places. I picked this mower because I needed to be able to mow and pull back without resistance and I wanted the blade stop. The mower gets a 5 star rating for all of the above. The 1 star ding comes from the variable speed control. It's crap. If you have more than a postage stamp lot your thumbs (both of them) will be sore by the time you are finished with your lawn. The feature is adjustable, it just doesn't matter, the resistance wears your thumb muscles down over time, and I'm 225 LBS so consider the source. 9" wheels would have been nice, the ones provided have about zero traction and are what you would find on a mower half the price, maybe even less. Disappointing for the price point. But cutting through wet grass without bogging down and actually completely filling the bag. Or mulching effortlessly without leaving clumps of grass everywhere. Priceless.

Added #5 to the collection

Good product, easy to use cuts a very level swath, very easy to start. One very small complaint: after mulching, grass tends to clog so that mulch/ bag slide won’t slide unless you relieve the clog by hand

I finally bought a Honda lawnmower and without a doubt, hands down the best mower I have ever owned. Its cut is great mulching with the two blade system is fantastic love the feature that the mower stays running saves me from restarting every time I stop also easy to adjust the cut height and switching from bagging to mulching is a snap Great mower would highly recommend this mower and very satisfied with my purchase !

After reading so much about Honda lawnmowers, I decide to buy one and see for myself. Everything is true. The mower is an excellent machine. The one item that can be improved is the size of the bag. It needs to be bigger. Other than that I give it a 10

This is my first Honda Mower. I was a Lawnboy person for over 40 years. It was finally time for a change. I actually look foward to mowing the lawn now. It's easy to start. The rear wheel drive works great with the thumb control lever no matter which way I'm mowing or how steep the hill. Switching from mulch to bag is simple. raising and lowering the mowing height is nice with one lever controlling both front or rear wheels. I also like the blade control lever that stops the blade when you release the handle without shutting of the mower.

So many little improvements that make this machine a pleasure to operate. Wider groves for bag to set in. No more popping out of groves. Adjusting cut height with just 2 levers instead of adjusting every wheel. Why Honda doesn’t do this on all models is puzzling. Power increased by going from a 160cc to a 170 cc is very noticeable for such a small increase. Runs smoother than previous Honda’s. Easier turning very noticeable. Not such a jumpy variable speed is welcome improvement. Blade engagement much smoother even at low rpms. Longer oil tube for easier draining of oil a welcome improvement . Nice streamlined look. Honda has done their homework.

Love everything about the mower with two minor complaints. I have the height adjustment set 2 1/2”. The 2” setting is a little low for my lawn and 2 1/2 is a little high. Other complaint is grass remains on the bag attachment hooks and the discharge chute and dumps clippings on the lawn when emptying. I never had this issue with my Snapper mower that I replaced. Other than that it starts, mow, handles and mulches great. Good mower and good value.

So I have had a $100 electric (corded) mover since 2006. I have had to empty the 1/3 full bag every 3 passes, cut the lawn at least 3 times to get it the right height, and all this would take about 2 hours to complete the task ( which I dreaded ). I have always loved Honda motorcycles so when it came time to purchases a new mower the choice was obvious. Today I used this beautiful machine for the first time and all I can say is, why did I wait so long to purchase a mower like this. My first pass was a dream come true, no bogging, no clippings left behind. I was able to complete the front and back yard in around 35 minutes , only emptying the bag 3 times, should have been 4 but I was waiting for grass clumps to come out from the bottom like my old clunker. Never did and the bag was completely packed to the top. This is a amazing machine and I cant wait to mow again, maybe ill fertilize more often now. Thank you Honda and to all of your fine employees for building such a quality piece. Now if only there was a HRC package for the mower.

Great mower but one complaint

After 20 years of buying cheap mowers every 5 years I decided to buy a Honda since they are known for their reliability. I also wanted one with the blade stop feature so I didn’t have to start the mower again after dumping the clippings. After the first couple uses I am overall very pleased. My only complaint is that the bag keeps falling off while mowing. From what I can tell the plastic lip where the bag sits is not deep enough so between the force of air coming from the blades and the occasional bumps in the yard the bag becomes partially dislodged on the right side. It’s not a major issue but something to work on in the future. Overall I’m very pleased!

After 40 years, my simple LawnBoy was no longer repairable (or worth repairing). So I had to decide between a gas and battery mower for my small (6k sq ft) urban lawn. It was between the best gas (Honda) and best electric (EGO). I was leaning towards gas to make sure I had the power to cut through heavy and/or wet thick northern lawn. I accepted the consensus that Honda had the best quality of cut. I was looking at the HRX series but was put off by the various comments that they were overkill for my small lawn and would be problematic in maneuvering around the many turns. So, I was very pleased when Honda came out with their HRN series. Solves everything for me. It came today and ten minutes later I had oil and gas (ethanol free) in it and took it for a 50 ft spin (its 34 degrees and windy so not a day to be out too long). Couldn't be more pleased. My biggest concern was that the LawnBoy's replacement would be heavy, bulky and unwieldy compared to the bare bones (vintage 1979) light weight self propelled LB. Sigh of relief - the Honda is very easy to handle. Very glad I got the VYA (blade clutch) model. Engine very (VERY) quiet with blade not spinning. Not much more noise when spinning. Too late in the season for grass cutting but will be using it through December to help gather leaves. But will look forward to enjoying it in the Spring.
