Honda Heroes are everyday people who perform selfless acts to benefit others while using power equipment products (lawn mowers, generators, tillers, trimmers, or snow blowers). Meet all our Honda Heroes.
Our latest Honda Hero Award Winner is Arthur Thomas of Milledgeville, GA. The Humble Farm Refuge is his micro urban farm that promotes environmental sustainability, by re-educating his community on the importance of eating quality and affordable food, by empowering them to produce their own with spaces unusual to the traditional farm.
“Agriculture plays a significant role in the development and sustainability of any economy. As communities continue to grow, more innovative solutions are needed to provide quality food and sustain a healthy environment”. Those who visit the micro urban farm can expect to learn a hands-on and holistic approach to a sustainable lifestyle with free lessons in alternative building, natural gardening, and material repurposing all within the confides of his half acre farm. Filled with unique plants and medicinal herbs, chickens, and bees to serve lessons on what we eat, where it comes from, and how it is produced.
With an open invitation, Arthur and his team have a particular fondness for educating community youth, seniors, and veterans. The Humble Farm Refuge also serves as a retreat and refuge for international travelers to train positive and productive people and the communal benefits of working in harmony with nature.
Tom & The Detroit Mower Gang
After taking notice of the abandonment of parks and recreation facilities in his hometown of Detroit in 2010, Tom and numerous others have worked tirelessly to maintain vacant lots and reclaim parks for the kids in the community. Since 2010 Tom has enlisted the help of 100 friends to form what’s affectionately known as, The Mower Gang. To date they have mowed the same 15 to 30 parks over 300 times. For his efforts, Tom and the Mower Gang were given a VersAttach trimmer that will provide them the versatility to clear almost any lot in their pursuit of the gentrification of Detroit.
Congratulations to Michael P. from Wilbraham, MA, our first ever Honda Hero. During the day, Mike is a teacher’s aide for a group of special kids at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. While many at the school would consider him a hero, he often comes to the rescue in his neighborhood as well, selflessly providing assistance to those in need of help mowing lawns in his community.
Congratulations, Mike! Thank you for being a Honda Hero in your community!
